Description

Whether you’re here for the Northern Lights or the glow of the Midnight Sun, Skálavík delivers an easy, memorable stay any time of year. Just 15 minutes from the Ring Road, this 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath home sits along Iceland’s stunning south coast—close to black sand beaches, charming local eateries, and the conveniences of Selfoss. It’s a peaceful seaside base for your Icelandic adventures. The space Steps from the North Atlantic Ocean sits Skálavík—also known as Cabin Cove by the Sea—in the quaint village of Stokkseyri. The original home was built in Reykjavík in 1933 and later relocated here, giving it a blend of history, Scandinavian simplicity, and soft, airy light. The two-level layout works beautifully for a couple or small family. There’s even an outdoor play area next door for little travelers. Inside, you’ll find natural materials, rich textiles, and a soothing palette that creates a clean, warm, and relaxed atmosphere. Modern comforts include Wi-Fi, a smart TV with streaming, under-floor radiant heating, and a washer and dryer. Families will also find a pack ’n play, children’s books, a few toys, hangers, room-darkening shades, and clothing storage—small touches that make the stay smoother. Living Spaces After a day exploring waterfalls or glaciers, ease into the comfortable living room. Settle in with a book, enjoy a cup of tea by the French doors, or simply take in glimpses of the village. With soft textures, natural fibers, and abundant windows, the space feels bright by day and cozy at night. Downstairs, a second living area offers a relaxed TV zone. The 55” smart TV provides streaming options—perfect for a little downtime with an Einstök or your favorite drink. Kitchen & Dining The kitchen is fully equipped for easy meals at home, with quality cookware, dishes, utensils, sharp knives, a microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee grinder, and basic spices. High-end appliances and generous counter space make meal prep simple and enjoyable. A small breakfast table is ideal for quick morning coffee before heading out. For shared dinners, the dining table seats up to eight in the open living area, warmed by a natural fiber pendant light that gives the room a soft, inviting glow. Bedrooms & Baths Upstairs Bedroom The queen bedroom upstairs is serene and comfortable, with soft linens, calming neutral tones, room-darkening shades, and plenty of natural light. It’s a restful retreat at the end of each day. Downstairs Bedrooms The first downstairs bedroom is tailored for kids, with two twin beds, cozy blankets, furnishings, convenient reading lights, and bright windows. The second downstairs bedroom features a super twin bed, soft textures, and a peaceful, simplified design. Bathrooms The downstairs full bath has a walk-in shower, radiant heated floors, complimentary soap and shampoo, and a hair dryer. The upstairs half bath offers a toilet and sink for added convenience. The laundry room (with washer and dryer) is located downstairs. Outdoor Amenities Enjoy sunrise, sunset, or a bit of Aurora watching from the upstairs deck accessed through the living room’s French doors. You’ll have views of the sea, the village, and the surrounding landscape—including the nearby historic cemetery, a simple and serene part of the neighborhood. The green space next to the house is spacious—great for kids to run, a casual picnic, or simply stretching out on a blanket to take in the fresh ocean air. Private parking is available on the driveway and accommodates two vehicles. Guest access Guests have access to the lower and main levels of the home. We ask that guests do not enter the attic space. Other things to note Iceland places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The home is heated with under-floor geothermal energy, and electricity is generated from clean hydro power. Occasionally the set point on the under-floor heating may need to be adjusted. If this happens, send us a message and we will take care of that as soon as possible. Recycling is standard practice here: Recycling (blue lid): plastic, cardboard, paper Trash: under the sink (grey bin outside at departure) Compost: under the sink in a compostable bag (brown bin outside at departure) Please empty trash, recycling, and compost at checkout. For transparency and safety: Exterior security cameras are installed at all entry points to the home. They record motion outdoors only and are not used inside the home.
