Our 38-acre property features lush forests, sparkling streams, and a vibrant array of wildlife, making it an ideal spot to decompress, breathe fresh air, and live in tune with the land. On-Site Activities: For those looking for adventure or relaxation, explore the natural wonders of Hush Valley with our on-site activities: Tranquil Forest Trails: Wander along our forest trails and immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscape. Ancient trees, a virginal fern forest, blackberries, and some of the best birdwatching in Costa Rica await you, along with butterflies and bees dancing from flower to flower. The land here breathes relaxation and peace. Seasonal Foraging and Exploration: We always welcome explorations of the land—you never know what treasures you might discover! For a more guided experience, we offer a casual foraging tour to show you the best seasonal spots. This service can be added to your reservation for $15 per person. The fee helps us manage the upkeep of the hiking trails on our 38-acre property. River Bathing: For those who enjoy cold water immersion, our river provides a perfect opportunity to take an invigorating dip into the swimming pools. The water is refreshingly cold and a great way to connect with nature. Forest Bathing: Experience the ancient practice of forest bathing—an immersion in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest. Walk among towering ancient trees and feel the interconnectedness of it all, allowing your mind to relax and your senses to awaken. Forest bathing offers a deep sense of peace, helping to reduce stress and create a feeling of profound connection to nature. Although we are tucked away on 38 acres of lush forestry, Hush Valley is in no way a secluded island detached from community and activities. There are plenty of attractions nearby, including wine tours, goat dairies, orchard tours, stunning waterfalls, coffee roaster tours, local dining, and much more. These experiences provide a wonderful blend of nature and culture, enriching your stay with us. Guest access Private Access: Entire Casita: Guests will have full, private access to their reserved casita, including all indoor living spaces (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living areas). Private Outdoor Areas: Each casita comes with its own outdoor seating area, patio, or porch, where guests can relax and enjoy the surrounding nature. Shared Access: Lago (the host house) Patio for Meals: Guests can pre-order farm-to-table meals and enjoy dining on the Lago patio, which provides a serene and tranquil setting for breakfast or lunch while surrounded by the beauty of Hush Valley. Gardens and Trails: Guests can explore the beautiful gardens and take walks on the trails throughout the property, ranging from altitudes of 6,300 to 7,200 feet. The trails lead to many picturesque areas of the property, including the river rock gardens, pasture area, and a grove of ancient trees and ferns. River and Riverside Areas: Access to the river is available for relaxing by the water or cold river bathing, allowing for a truly natural experience. Foraging and Seasonal Exploration: Guests are welcome to explore the property and forage for seasonal fruits, or take part in a guided foraging experience for an additional fee. Wellness Amenities: Access to on-site wellness offerings, such as the sauna (when available), and participation in activities like yoga or sound therapy sessions for an additional fee. Additional Amenities: Laundry Facilities: Available for guests staying 4 nights or longer, accessible through the shared laundry room for certain casitas. Parking: Each casita has a designated space for parking a vehicle. Other things to note Upon arrival, enjoy a complimentary welcome basket filled with fresh baked bread, jam, butter, milk, eggs, coffee, and tea. The Riverside Studio sits right beside a beautiful, shimmering river-complete with swimming holes, ancient stones, and vibrant life. Please note that the river creates continuous sound throughout your stay. Most find it relaxing, like a natural white noise machine, but it’s important to be aware. Packing Suggestions: To make the most of your stay, we recommend bringing a variety of clothing to suit the diverse climate: Warm Weather Clothing: Shorts and t-shirts for sunny days. Cool Weather Clothing: A fleece or light jacket, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts for cooler evenings and nights. Rain Gear: A waterproof jacket or poncho, as rain can still happen during the dry season. Quick-Drying Clothes: Especially useful during rainy season visits. Footwear: Good hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes for exploring the trails and morning walks (the grass is often wet with dew). Check-In and Check-Out: Check-in: 2 pm-4 pm Check-out: 11 am Transportation and Accessibility: Hush Valley Lodge is located in the stunning Dota mountains, offering a perfect retreat while still being accessible. We provide a shuttle add-on for airport transfers, making it convenient for guests arriving from afar. If you have any questions about arranging transportation, feel free to reach out, and we’ll be happy to assist. For those who prefer not to rent a car, Hush Valley has plenty to offer right on-site, some within walking range. However, for guests interested in exploring more of the nearby and surrounding attractions, a rental vehicle is recommended for convenience. 4x4 is not needed to access our property, but is always recommended. Meals & Wellness Guests can pre-order meals or select special meal packages with fresh, organic produce boxes, available for those staying over the weekend.
