Cabaña Arriero, Loma de Thoreau, Jarabacoa
The Arriero cabin is located in La Loma de Thoreau, Quintas del Bosque, 940 meters above sea level and in the heart of the Dominican Central Cordillera. We dedicated it to Henry David Thoreau (1817- 1862), because he and his writings are the ones that have inspired us to lead the lifestyle we choose. Thoreau said that whoever moves confidently in the direction of his dreams, crosses an invisible border. We're happy to share our place in the world. Bienvenidos a la Loma de Thoreau! The space Within the Loma de Thoreau we have created different spaces to fully enjoy the life in the forest. Following the interior trails, you can walk practically the entire property and its different environments: The Mogote viewpoint (1,560 meters high above sea level), the beach, the small coffee shop, the inside of the glue and a large flat surface covered in grass, a real privilege on such rugged terrain. To build the Arriero hut, we adapted the design to the existing trees so as not to cut a single one. That's why it now has majestic western pines, peaks, and alligators around it. We also planted Dominican forest species, fruit trees, and different kinds of pine trees. Guest access The property has different areas that can be crossed through stone trails, which is ideal for walking and exercising outdoors, in a diverse and unique environment: the fire pit, the picnic table, the Mogote viewpoint (the highest mountain in the area), the canyon forest (with a collection of native trees), the banana tree and the coffee plantation. We also recommend making the inland trails of Quintas del Bosque, with breathtaking views of the Jarabacoa Valley, the Manabao Canyon, the Yaque del Norte River and the cabins built in the most important mountain real estate development in the Dominican Republic. Other things to note Take care of Jack and Buck! Jack and Buck, our Labradors, have lived here since very young. At Loma de Thoreau they have been able to enjoy a free life in the woods. Their names are due to one of our favourite novels: The Call of the Wild, by Jack London. Jack, the yellow dog, is named after the author, and Buck, the clearest, after the protagonist of the book. They are very active and playful. If they hear them barking at night, it's because of their instinct of guardians. You're welcome to be alarmed. They have food. Please do not give them bones, especially chicken, they can be damaged. When they open and close the gates, make sure they're still in. Take care of Jack and Buck, they are part of our family!
