Guest access Faros village is located in southeast Sifnos, 12 km from Kamares, the island's port, and 7 km from Apollonia, the capital of Sifnos. If you have your own vehicle, follow the road to Apollonia, head towards Fasolou Beach and enter the parking area marked Villa Maria Studios. Other things to note Faros is considered to be the island's safest port and for that reason until 1883 it was Sifnos’ official port. The village takes its name in Greek from the lighthouse at the entrance to the port, next to Stavros Monastery. The view of Chrysopigi and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea from there is enchanting! Faros is a picturesque fishing village which offers access to three sandy beaches: Fasolou, Faros and Glyfo. It’s an ideal choice for food, especially fish, drinks and coffee in the afternoon. You can also shop at the local mini market. From Glyfo you can access the island's best known, well-trodden path which leads to Chrysopigi with its small cape where the famed monastery dating from 1650 is located. Panagia Chrysopigi (the Virgin of the Golden Spring) is the island's protector and a visit to the monastery dedicated to her, located on this picturesque rock, is a must for anyone visiting Sifnos. The paths to Kastro and Exambela also start from Faros. At Faros Beach you’ll find the chapel of Agios Grigoris and higher up above the foundations of an ancient tower is the chapel of Agios Nikolaos. Stavros Monastery stands proud above Fasolou Beach.
