Description
Nestled on the edge of the Peak District in the picturesque village of Marsden with hundreds of hiking and walking routes accessible from the door step. Surrounded by panoramic Views. Only 15 min walk (albeit very steep!) from the village centre and train station (Manchester 30 mins, Leeds 40 mins, Huddersfield 10mins). A 5k walk or 3min train ride from neighbouring village Slaithwaite and a short drive from Holmfirth. We are biased but this really is a breathtaking location. The space A spacious self contained space with open plan kitchen, dining and living. 2 large double bedrooms, one large bathroom. A hallway and entrance area for coats and boots. Panoramic views across the valley and village. Breath taking moorland location with short (but steep) foot access to the village amenities and station (15 mins). Storage for bikes if needed. Dog Friendly :) Escape to the country! Nothing is better for the soul than countryside views, hundreds of walking and hiking routes direct from the doorstep, across moorland, round reservoirs, through rivers, via waterfalls, to wild swimming locations, to pubs and neighbouring villages! Things to do & see in the local area: Marsden Moor Estate: Walk right out onto more than 5000 acres of breath taking moorland landscape steeped in history. Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre: A wander down to the village for boat trips to explore deep beneath the beautiful Pennine countryside. Enjoy a canalside stroll in stunning surroundings or follow the Admiral's Trail, and top it all off with tea and cake in the The Watersedge Coffee House. Marsden Village: A variety of local & independent pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops, surrounded by striking landscape and on the edge of the river Colne (plenty of spots to paddle! Follow the River down to Eastergate for a beautiful walk). Slaithwaite Village: A 5km walk (or 3 min train ride) along the canal will bring you to neighbouring village 'Slawit,' there are plenty of places to stop on the way for refreshments (A personal favourite is the Wild Cafe!) Upper Mill: Approximately 10km across Moorland and then onto the canal will bring you to the much bigger and busier village of Uppermill in Saddleworth (If you don't fancy the walk back, Marsden is only one stop on the train) Holmfirth: A 25 min drive away is 'Last of the Summer Wine' country! There's even a Vineyard to try some local specialties after seeing the sites of the TV classic. We are closed for stays during the coldest winter months as access gets more difficult and the weather more unpredictable! Guest access We are down 0.9 miles of unmade track- this is bumpy, stony and off road! We have a small Toyota aygo that copes with it fine as long as we go slowly but there is alternative parking and access via footpath if this is undesirable! The track is not recommended for low wheel base cars. There is free parking on site for 2 cars. There is also free parking at the bottom of the footpath. The footpath access is short but steep - 0.25km with an elevation of 45m, max elevation 268m, with 2 styles. We are also happy to collect guests with their bags from this location (this would need to be organised in advance as we work full time).
