Unplug from the grid for couples time or as a family with our farm animals, hayloft, and king size historic cupboard bed. After 9 years as a super host we designed this space for maximum farm experience and proximity to our animals. Having grown up on two farms we understand how increasingly rare it is to be surrounded by animals now and want to offer that experience of calm and tranquility. Bring your pups along - we know they’re family too. Follow us at Meadowhead on Cedar. The space If you love animals - what’s better than barn glamping?! Our normal guest profile are people who want to be around a farm and interact with animals - maybe love camping but don’t want to bring gear along and appreciate having essentials at hand. We also often host families with children who adore animals and love feeding them or going on an egg hunt with us, laying in the hammock in the hayloft or cozying up together in the cupboard bed for story time. It’s an honor for us to give your kids this experience and we bought this farm for our own child because of the compassion and curiosity as well as responsibility caring for animals instills. Inspired by Pamela’s years in European barns, we incorporated British tack rooms downstairs and Swedish/Austrian traditions upstairs, this unique space has no equal in the region. Sometimes our animals go to “freezer camp” or spend time on another farm for breeding or so we can fix fencing should a tree fall. If you want to see who is on farm currently our insta page with our farm name Meadowhead on Cedar has current stories or you can just ask us! Farms change day to day just like the weather and season. There is no AC in this unit (or our house as it weakens our ability to function as farmers) so if fans and screen doors and shade aren’t enough, it’s probably best to wait to book until cooler weather. A wall of windows overlooking the pasture and forest cozied up with our pellet stove is a perfect spot for days of naps. Walk out onto the porch to say hello and scratch the animals or sip your beverage of choice by the fire pit. We have a small kitchenette, and grill and ice cooler on the porch with drinking water provided. Visible in the photos. We provide solar lights which turn on in the evening and four recharable lanterns along with a large battery bank to charge them or phones as needed. There is also a screen door for the porch and loft vent with a new solar powered exhaust fan! We are on top of a hill and the cell signal is 5 bars. There is a bathroom with a composting toilet. There is currently no shower option. However we have YMCA guest passes which is 5 minutes away. As you ascend into the hayloft you will find our king size “cupboard bed” or “lit clos”. A traditional bed closed in to give a deep sense of nesting. Two more twin beds with one lifted yet higher above the king size bed and the fourth across the loft in its own corner allow for 4 guests total. Windows allow you clear views both onto the pasture to the south and into the hayloft in the barn to the north. A final treat is a small door leading onto a catwalk above the stalls below across to the hayloft and two hammocks for yet another private resting place on the farm. We take reservations for our traditional Finnish sauna and cold plunge for $95 per session. We require advanced warning and cannot accommodate last minute requests. Be sure to let us know you’re interested as soon as possible! YMCA access - We have bought guest fobs for you to visit our Local YMCA 5 minutes away. Working out, classes, swimming, yoga, squash and basketball to name a few! Let us know if you’d like to use the fobs during your stay. You can find their classes and hours at tri community YMCA in Southbridge. Check in - When you arrive we’ll greet you and send you on to the barn. Dogs - This is a working farm with three collies who are off leash working to keep predators away (everyone likes chicken…) so we ask that you keep your dog leashed. We do have our front pasture for off leash play when the cows are in the back pasture and live next to miles of walking trails. If your dog is aggressive to people or other dogs and animals we recommend not booking. It is a danger to our animals and to us. Children under 10 - we adore children but recommend checking in with us if they are under 6 years old. The stairs are steep and there is access to the hayloft which has a balcony. The ladder to the loft bed is enticing and not all children are ready for such heights. We’ve had kids stay with us who adore it, but it does require monitoring the children. We are happy to provide grain to hand feed the cows if you’d like. Feeding them anything else can result in death. Please ask and we will happily give you some grain! Check out - be sure all trash is in the outdoor bin and that all dishes are clean. We’ll handle the rest! Our amazing cleaner Kristi runs a local business and helps us. We adore her and your cleaning fee only covers part of what we pay her. We handle the rest. She’s our most important team member and we are glad to give her a living wage. Thank you for supporting this with your booking! Guest access If you love camping but don’t want to hike in with your gear water and heat source this space is for you! Off grid and supplied with bedding - water - heat - and simple kitchen supplies, you can focus on yourself or your group unplugging and relaxing. Barn Apartment - Hayloft - Porch. YMCA With reservations the Finnish sauna. We have one other Airbnb unit down in the forested section of our property which is private. Our house and yard are not open to guests but if you have questions or would like to tour the gardens please let us know. We love our guests and sharing our passion and learning about farming and foraging in New England. Wildlife of all sorts are welcome on our farm. You will see owls - raptors - fox - coyote - our local weasel who handles the mice - bees - bunnies and so on. The peepers and crickets sing beautifully. If anyone happens to be a bit too close let us know. It’s why we have three collies to manage security! That said as a regenerative farm which does not use poisons (required as a national wildlife federation property) we encourage potential guests who are afraid of other species to book elsewhere. Unhappy guests make us sad! Sometimes our livestock moves pastures, sometimes they go to “freezer camp” or to be bred. The farm is seasonal so don’t hesitate to ask us who is here at the moment if you have a particular face you’re wanting to see! Other things to note NO LIVE FIRE. It’s incredibly important there is no live flame except on our propane grill we provide. If you smoke, please let us know and we will give you an extra chair in our safe space away from the barn to ensure everyone’s safety. Smoking anywhere around the barn will result in immediate non refundable cancelation. Vaping is permitted on the porch. It is of mortal importance you only feed the animals the food we provide. Bloat and colic can happen so easily with items not normally consumed. Thank you for being careful with our furry friends! Be sure you never enter the pastures as the cows are 1300 lbs and know you are a stranger. It is not safe to do so and will result in immediate non refundable cancelation. DOGS - we love dogs and love when they visit! Dogs must always be leashed unless we offer the front pasture for off leash play. Our dogs have been attacked by guests whose dogs are sensitive so we kindly ask you not bring dogs who are uncomfortable around other dogs or cats or livestock. The patio abuts the pasture and it is possible for a determined dog to take the 5ft jump into the pasture. All that said dogs who love to have playdates or just sit and watch the livestock from the floor to ceiling windows are most welcome! Immunization is required. VIRUS UPDATE 11/23 We are requesting dogs showing signs of illness do not visit. Please bring your own bowls to feed and water them so we keep everyone safe. We are currently avoiding play dates until the vets get a handle on this virus. Our farm is on top of a hill and gets great cell service! During Covid we used it to zoom meetings so your signal should be sufficient for internet service. Children and dogs should be watched at all times. We love hosting both, however most children and dogs! . However yelling and barking will scare the animals away, encourage them to stay calm and quiet in order to help forge a mutually engaging experience. If dogs can’t stay calm it’s best to keep them inside. Throwing objects at the animals will result in an immediate non refundable cancellation. Again - this space is off grid as described in the description. Wildlife is all around. We do not use poisons and are not allowed to as a national wildlife federation property. Our cleaning staff ensures there are no issues but if a bug comes in when a door is opened that is life on the farm. Feel free to escort them out. If it’s a bird or other larger animal just give us a call and we’ll help them return to their families. We keep security cameras on our driveway and at our house. You never need to worry about them in the unit.
