Description
Take a break and unwind at this peaceful oasis. The space You're in the perfect place to enjoy that! The Welland Canal, particularly around Welland, offers some fantastic spots to combine lush greenery and open fields with the fascinating sight of ship vessels passing through. Here are some of the best places to experience this: * Merritt Island, Welland: This is an absolute gem right in the heart of Welland. It's an outdoor paradise with natural trails that span the Welland Recreational Corridor. You'll find plenty of green spaces and paths right along the canal bank, perfect for strolling, picnicking, and watching the ships go by, day or night. It's known for its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful trees. * Welland Canal Park & Civic Square (Welland): This area in downtown Welland has been designed to connect the city core with the canal. You'll find flexible green open spaces and viewing platforms right along the canal. It's a welcoming public space that offers great views of the waterway. * Lock 8 and Fountainview Park (Port Colborne): While a bit further south in Port Colborne, Lock 8 offers an excellent observation stand and park area. It's known as one of the world's longest locks, and you'll get a spectacular view of massive ships navigating this engineering marvel. The surrounding park provides that desired greenery. While the main Welland Canal bypasses the city core of Welland (meaning large ships don't pass directly through the central part of the city as they once did), the Welland Recreational Waterway in Welland, which is the former canal route, is still a beautiful spot. You'll find lush scenery, and while large commercial ships won't be there, you can enjoy other water activities and the serene environment. For the large commercial vessels, focusing on the actual canal locks (like Lock 8 in Port Colborne or Lock 3 in St. Catharines) will give you the best ship-watching experience with green surroundings. No matter where you choose along the Welland Canal, you're sure to find a picturesque setting to enjoy both nature and the impressive sight of ships navigating this historic waterway. Last but not least the fascinating scenic view in back right here from home, we have a spectacular view of the Welland Canal, where you can watch huge cargo ships and Viking cruise liners pass through, especially busy in the spring, summer, and fall. It's fascinating to track them! Guest access Main entrance (key required). Enter and walk ahead to hallway. Climb stairs walk towards the 3rd room. The first bedroom on the left is your guestroom.
