Take a step back in time! From your perch on the second floor, you can enjoy the view of the civil war era homes and the restored brick train station on this quiet one-way street. You can imagine the wagons and stages rolling by to meet the train, or pick up goods and lumber. Take in the sunshine, your room has large windows to the south & west. Alternatively, shoot the breeze and practice the art of porch-sitting on the wrap-around porch at the first floor level. You'll feel at home in no time! Your private space will be up a flight of stairs; take time to notice the original banister, vintage panel doors and cast iron latches as you enter the bedroom. Rest on the luxurious queen bed and comfortable reclining chair. A small table with two seats sits by the window, providing a great space to work, sip coffee, or enjoy a meal. A variety of K-cups and light snacks are available for your refreshment. There is a mini-fridge (with freezer) and a microwave right in the room. Put down your suitcase on the valet; there is a small closet to hang clothes and store your belongings. There is a mirrored makeup vanity with a lamp available for your use. Your private bathroom is right across the hallway with a bidet, sink and shower. Free on-street parking available directly in front of the house! Shared front porch. Private Bedroom Private Bathroom with shower. Freedom Began Here! A small town rich in history, Christiana played part in the prelude to the Civil War. Quakers and other abolitionists in the area facilitated safe passage for many escaping the brutalities of Southern slavery, informally constituting the "Underground Railroad." In 1851-ten years before the Civil War, a standoff between a posse of Southern slave owners and freed slaves turned violent, leading to flaring tensions between the North and South. Zercher's Hotel (a block away) played a key role in this "Resistance in Christiana." A railroad town since 1831, our residents demonstrated pride in this history by restoring the freight station at the end of Maple Avenue. Train watchers will appreciate the public seating on the platform beside the station. Maple Avenue is part of a quiet neighborhood across the train tracks from the main part of town. Whether walking around the block, or to the end of the street to see the historical displays or enjoy nature and a stream at "Gouge Grove" off of E. Slokom Ave. You will feel safe and welcomed in our neighborhood. Also within walking distance, you'll find Christiana Lions Club community park with four baseball fields, a walking trail, a playground, a basketball court and a picnic pavilion.
