Description
A traditional 1940s summer cottage with a lakefront sauna, 60 min from Helsinki. There is a main cottage, a summer-use guest cabin with two bedrooms and a lovely sauna just two metres from the lake! Forage blueberries, lingonberries and forest strawberries on the property, fish for pike and small perch from the sauna deck, or take the rowboat out for a bigger catch. There are some good mushroom spots in the forest behind the cabin. The space The cottage is a homely, rustic space where you can relax and enjoy the simple life. You will find four buildings: the main building, the guest cabin, a traditional Finnish sauna, and an ecological dry toilet. MAIN CABIN - 43 m² The main building has a kitchen, double bedroom, living room with fireplace, large dining table for six people, and an outdoor seating area. The living room has a comfortable sofabed that can be easily folded down. The kitchen is well equipped with kitchenware and essential cooking ingredients (oil, salt, spices, tea, etc.) The main cabin has a fireplace and electric heaters. NOTE: There is no running water on the property. Please bring your own drinking water. We wash dirty plates and dishes in the outside kitchen using water from the lake. SUMMER GUEST CABIN - 15 m² The guest cabin has two bedrooms and a terrace overlooking the garden and lake. One bedroom has a double bed, and the other has a desk and two single beds (which are pushed together to make a double). The guest cabin isn't fully insulated, so it may be cold at night in the autumn. Both rooms have electric heaters. SAUNA BUILDING - 15 m² The traditional 1940s sauna is a rustic building located on the lakefront—it's a great place to relax after a long day of exploring the country lanes and nearby forests. The cosy log sauna is wood-heated and has a separate washing and dressing room. The shower room has a wood-fired water tank and buckets with ladles for showering. The water tank can be refilled from the lake (there is an electric pump). DRY TOILET Next to the main cabin, you will find the ecological, bio-composting dry toilet. BEDS AND BEDROOMS NOTE: We provide duvets and pillows, but please bring your own bedsheets, duvet covers, pillowcases and towels. We don't provide these. Main cabin bedroom: Double bed (140 cm) Guest cabin bedroom 1: Double bed (140 cm) Guest cabin bedroom 2: Two single beds (90 cm each) Living room: Double sofabed (130 cm) The basic rental fee is for six guests. Should there be more guests, there is an extra charge of 30 EUR per guest per night. LAKE The property is situated on the lake, with a shallow shore that slowly goes deeper a few meters in. We have a rowing boat, which can be used by our guests. There is no motored boating allowed on the lake, which makes for a peaceful experience. The lake is stocked with zander and whitefish and very large pike. Fishing recommended. SURROUNDING AREA The property occupies 2514 m² of land, with direct access to the lake. The outdoor terrain is partly forest and partly lawn - perfect for playing lawn games or for a spot of evening yoga. Berry bushes surround the cottage, which is situated between a paddock and our neighbour's property. The nearby forests are a short walk away and are great for foraging chanterelles, porcini mushrooms and berries. Lohja Spa and Resort is a 10 min drive away if you fancy a day of spa treatments and poolside relaxation. The charming town of Karjaloha is just 6 km away. Guest access The entire property is for guest use. There are nearby forests accessible according to everyman's right. There is a parking space for two cars on the premises. Other things to note Rustic cabin life Our place isn't perfect. The paint is chipping in places, bugs and woodland creatures may want to say hello, and there isn't any air conditioning. We love the manual-ness of cabin life - such as lighting a fire to heat water from the lake to do the dishes - but if you need Egyptian sheets or modern luxuries, this may not be the place for you :) Bring your own bed linen We cannot provide bedsheets, duvet covers or pillow cases. Please bring your own. We provide duvets and pillows. No running water There is no running water on the property. Please bring your own drinking water. There is a water pump to pump water from the lake into the sauna for washing. Children and babies The cottage is good for babies and young children, but please let me know beforehand if you need a pack-and-play crib or highchair. Extra guests The basic rental fee is for six guests. Should there be more guests, there is an extra charge of 30 EUR per guest per night.
