Beautiful log cabin by a creek
Four miles down a winding dirt road, you can play in the creek and sleep in a log cabin under towering redwoods. Wake to sunshine streaming through tall windows. There is internet available but no cell service at the cabin. Sometimes rustic is exactly what you need. Please plan to arrive in daylight hours to get your bearings. You walk down a stone path into a kitchen studio room with a wood stove, daybed twin and bathroom all on one level. To access the upstairs bedroom, go back outside and up the deck staircase, and into the big bedroom. There is a queen bed futon, twin, and a full bed. We have 200 acres of wild forest that you are free to explore but please watch out for ticks. We're off grid but have all the necessities in terms of kitchen appliances and wifi. Please no smoking inside or outside. It's a fire hazard. Hazel Putnam, an accomplished equestrian of the last century, built her cabin in the 1960s and lived on this land for many years. Over the last twenty years we've renovated a few of the rooms, and built an addition. The back half of the house is rented to a long-term tenant and his two friendly dogs, so they are nearby. One is large and rowdy, and the other is small and shy. You may see them outside in the garden or on the porch. Guests are welcome to wander around across the creek, where Hazel kept her horses and had a little outdoor kitchen, and up the little path across Reeves Canyon Rd. Across the creek is the trampoline and outdoor kitchen, and an area where our families occasionally camp during the summer. Our neighbors are trees! Hazel jealously guarded her big trees, and we appreciate them too. We are about 4 miles down a dirt road from the highway. Follow the directions that I send in the welcome letter carefully, because once you're out of cell range there's no way to call and ask questions. There is no cell service, so turn on your wifi calling if you have that option. We don't have a landline. We are off the electric grid, and rely on a solar array, generator and batteries to power our lights and appliances (except the ones that are propane). We drink our water, but we do not vouch for it - it is from a surface spring and is not filtered. Bring water bottles or boil water. Reeves Canyon road is a narrow dirt road that has to accommodate two-way traffic. There are turnouts to pass oncoming cars. Please take it slowly with a maximum speed of 15 mph. Occasionally, we have power outagea. If that happens, we will provide battery operated lights and turn on the generator.
