The Turquoise House (Chora – Alonnisos Island)

Enjoy a unique experience in the beautiful Chora of Alonissos, living in a traditional village house, located almost at the highest point of Chora, with special aesthetics, panoramic views from the roof to the islands of the marine park, while at the same time you will be next to all the restaurants and shops of Chora of Alonissos. It is 70 sqm, ideal for a couple or 2-3 adults, or a couple with 2 children. Not ideal for 2 couples. It has a small yard & pets are allowed. The space The place is ideal for either a couple or 2-3 adult friends or a couple with two children. Four friends could also be accommodated. It's not ideal for two couples because they won't feel complete privacy. There is on the ground floor a space with built-in sofas (which also function as 2 single beds) and a table with chairs, a small toilet with shower, a small kitchen and a courtyard, on the first floor a slightly larger bedroom and a small one with two single built-in beds that also functions as a space to put one's luggage and shoes. There are two closets. The nicest part is the roof, especially when there's a full moon. From the roof you can see many islands and islets such as Evia, Skopelos, Peristera, the islands of Two brothers and other small islands of the marine park of the Northern Sporades. The place is ideal for daydreaming on the terrace in the afternoons reading your book by the sea, and then wandering through the picturesque alleys of Chora, its restaurants, bars and shops. Guest access As in most houses in the Old Town of Alonissos, guests park their cars outside the settlement (in a public free open parking lot) and then access the house by stairs. The distance is 5 minutes on foot and the steps about 15. For basic necessities during the summer months, there is a mini market at the entrance of Chora. Other things to note Arrival instructions for guests: The house is located in the settlement of the Old Town of Alonissos, which is 3 km from the port called Patitiri. In the Old Town of Alonissos, cars are not allowed anywhere and all cars are necessarily parked outside the settlement, in a municipal open space for free parking, which has been created for this very reason. In this parking lot during the summer months of July and August after 6:30 pm in the afternoon it is difficult to find a vacant place because the daily tourists invade the settlement, so it is good to return by car a little earlier from the beaches, otherwise to return later in the evening when most tourists have already left. Then, after climbing the stairs, the guest passes the first public terrace with a view where the Heroon is located, proceeds a little further straight to the alley with the tourist shops, until he sees the restaurant "Paraport" on his left hand (this restaurant is located immediately before the restaurant "Hayati" where the second public terrace with a view is located. So just before the Paraport restaurant, the guest turns left, goes down a few more steps and then he will see a small church and next to the house that is on the corner, it has a characteristic turquoise color, the windows are painted in the color of a rotten apple and in its corner there is a small arched stone arch. There is no other house with this color and arched arch in its corner, in this location or anywhere else in Chora. Instructions for inside the house Entering the house on the left is the switchboard and we lift the main switch. Up to 4 people can sleep in the house because there is only one bathroom, etc. There are two inflatable double beds upstairs, two folded mattresses inside the closet again upstairs for the small room and the two single mattresses in the main area where two people can sleep there. All the mattresses that fold (2 single in the small room) are collected after being used and put inside the closets as well as their covers The two double mattresses (the inflatable ones) inflate and deflate with the button on them, after plugging them in. Generally, the double mattresses, because they are inflatable, every 2-3 days may lose some air and need to be inflated. This is normal and is from the manufacturer. But if they get punctured, then there are patches and glue in a visible spot in the main room that can be used. In any case, the inflatable mattresses should never be dragged and should always be placed on the 2 mats that are already in place. All the rugs upon departure are collected and put in a closet. All the pillows upon departure are collected and put in a closet. Tools/paints/decorative items/electrical appliances/linen are never lost or removed from the house. Ideally, every electrical appliance is placed back in its box upon departure. Because I love plants very much and it is difficult to bring plants here, if someone stays at the house for days, I would like to ask them to water the plants inside the yard, the plants outside the front door and the plants on the side of the house in the corner with a bucket. A total of three flower beds with plants If any damage occurs, please let me know immediately so I can fix it The appliances in the house are: lemon squeezer/toaster/kitchen stove/water kettle/mini vacuum cleaner with 2-3 accessories/and coffee maker. There are of course dishes, glasses, cutlery, etc. There's an air conditioner on the first floor with its remote control. The tools found in the house (in cabinets under the stairs) are a hammer, pliers, wrench, screwdrivers, meter, insulating tape, scissors, etc. The two plastic chairs, the table and the clothesline (which are usually useful in the yard) are collected upon departure and placed back inside the house. Also, the director's cloth chairs and a small table that we use when we are on the roof are collected inside the house. If they are forgotten outside during our final departure from the house, because there are often wind gusts in the Sporades (i.e. very sudden strong and fast storms with winds), it is likely that they will break and may cause damage to other houses or people We always carefully close the door that connects the two bedrooms as well as the two half doors that lead to the roof, carefully closing the latches We always close all the shutters Be careful, some old double switches have not yet been replaced by new ones, so be careful not to endanger young children Also be careful in the main bedroom. Under a piece of furniture that is in the corner there is a rat poison placed, but on top it says that it is rat poison. Mice have not appeared in some years because the possible passages have been closed, but we always leave rat poison to be proactive. Caution: The water heater is a fast water heater that heats up very quickly and must be turned off immediately afterwards. Beware of hot water because it comes straight at a high temperature in the fast water heaters. The water heater is relatively small and is usually sufficient for a maximum of two people. Then it needs to be turned on and off again. CAUTION: Water should not be wasted because it does not come at all hours of the day and is therefore stored in a cistern. This is the case in all the houses of the traditional settlement. The button for the water heater is the double button on the far left of the electrical panel. Also the water button opens the water pressure (necessary to get water so high in the settlement) which is located in the courtyard (it makes a sound when it works) and is covered with a bag, which is open in the front, so that the impeller of the machine gets air and does not get stuck. Do not remove this bag, and if it is torn, place another black garden bag made of thick nylon and tie it exactly the same way it was before. CAUTION: Never throw paper or anything else in the toilet, only in the trash can. If the shower or a tap is clogged, we must use the unblocking tool (black rubber with red handle) that is next to the basin to create a vacuum and unblock it. CAUTION: When we leave the house to go for a swim or a walk, we always close the water heater and the air-conditioner before leaving because it is a sin in times when electricity costs so much to burn while we are not present at home. ATTENTION: The water in the whole area of Chora Alonissos is NOT drinkable, so we always bring bottled water with us. We cook with bottled water and we make coffee with bottled water, etc., so we store bottled water in the refrigerator to always have enough. There is a supermarket at the entrance of the village to buy the basic necessities but large supermarkets are only in Patitiri and Votsi (a very new and more luxurious one) if one wants to buy something better in products Before leaving the house permanently, check that you have turned off all the taps and lights and especially that you have turned off the water heater (!!!) and the air conditioner and ideally turn off the main power switch after checking that you have removed everything from the refrigerator, which you leave with the door open. We also throw out the trash from the bathroom and the kitchen, check that we have properly closed all the windows and lock the house. Garbage is thrown in bins located in the parking lot at the entrance of the village (next to the cemetery) and is not left anywhere else in the settlement. Finally, for reasons of courtesy, we ideally leave for the next guest 1 kitchen paper, 2 toilet papers, a clean garbage bag in the bin, and two bottles of water of one liter because they will arrive thirsty.
