It has a population of less than 200 people. A vacation on Water Island might include: relaxing days on the beach, kayaking, exploring the shoreline at Limestone bay, a day of fishing or boating, a day trip to St. Thomas, hiking around Water Island island, exploring the remains of military fortifications, joining residents for movie night on the beach, having lunch and drinks at Honeymoon Beach. You can also take a boating adventure over to St. John or the Spanish Virgin islands. Additional details are below and website links can be found in Jan & Billy's Guidebook on the Blue Moon homepage: Dining & Nightlife on Water Island The quintessential image of island living is sipping on a cocktail with toes in the sand, and the water's edge just steps away. And this is what the dining and nightlight options on Water Island offer. For lunch options everyday head to Honeymoon Beach for a bite at one of two beach-side watering holes. Dinghy's Beach Bar & Grill and neighboring Heidi's Hilltop Grill are favorites with locals and boaters. Grab some fish, a burger or sandwich with a refreshing cocktail and kickback for a laid back afternoon. Nightlife on Water Island How does watching a movie on the beach sound to you; or listening to a live band on the beach; or having dinner on the beach? Everything is on the beach on Water Island. Dinghy's Beach Bar & Grill regularly is open late during season and often has live music. Dancing under the stars in the sand; so cool and so Water Island! Visit the bulletin board in Phillip's Landing, where the ferry dock is located, for announcements of special offerings and events at Dinghy's and Heidi's; or just stop by and ask them! Residents know how to have a good time so don't be shy while on your visit. After a few days on Water Island you will probably get acquainted with much of the population, if you choose to, and can join them for a drink and a chat at Dinghy's and Heidi's! Remember that you’re traveling to a tropical island, where weather can be unpredictable. Occasional rain showers or brief storms may cause delays in the water taxi service, and on rare occasions, temporary power outages can occur. Fortunately, storms at these latitudes usually pass quickly and are unlikely to disrupt your vacation. As with any tropical environment, you may encounter bugs, and the sun’s rays are more intense this close to the equator. Be sure to pack your preferred bug spray and plenty of sunscreen. Conserve Water The fresh water source on Water Island is rain collected in cisterns. Please help conserve this natural resource (take short showers, don’t run the water while brushing your teeth or while doing dishes).
