Water Island offers visitors a superb opportunity to relax away from everything and enjoy a laid-back vacation. It is a small residential island; the smallest of the four USVI islands at just 491.5 acres. It is also the youngest having been transferred to the local government in December 1996. It has a population of less than 200 people. A vacation on Water Island might include: relaxing days on the beach, kayaking, exploring the shoreline at Limestone bay, a day of fishing or boating, a day trip to St. Thomas, hiking around Water Island island, exploring the remains of military fortifications, joining residents for movie night on the beach, having lunch and drinks at Honeymoon Beach. You can also take a boating adventure over to St. John or the Spanish Virgin islands. Additional details are below and website links can be found in Jan & Billy's Guidebook on the Blue Moon homepage: Lion In Da Sun is a "Captained Powerboat Day Charter" business in the US Virgin Islands of St. John and St. Thomas. The days activities are completely up to you and might include island hopping in the British Islands such as Jost van Dyke, Sandy Spit, Norman Island, and Virgin Gorda among many others. You can incorporate world-class snorkeling, beaches, bars, and local lunch spots. The day is completely up to you! Take a voyage from Water Island to the Spanish Virgin Islands. You will have plenty of time to explore the quaint town of Culebra where you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading for the island of Culebrita, home of some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Relax on the beach or explore the local lighthouse before we head back to St.Thomas. Dining & Nightlife on Water Island The quintessential image of island living is sipping on a cocktail with toes in the sand, and the water's edge just steps away. And this is what the dining and nightlight options on Water Island offer. For lunch options everyday head to Honeymoon Beach for a bite at one of two beach-side watering holes. Dinghy's Beach Bar & Grill and neighboring Heidi's Honeymoon Grill are favorites with locals and boaters. Grab some fish, a burger or sandwich with a refreshing cocktail and kickback for a laid back afternoon. Nightlife on Water Island How does watching a movie on the beach sound to you; or listening to a live band on the beach; or having dinner on the beach? Everything is on the beach on Water Island. Dinghy's Beach Bar & Grill regularly is open late during season and often has live music. Dancing under the stars in the sand; so cool and so Water Island! Heidi's Honeymoon Grill does Monday night movies. The screen is suspended between coconut trees and movie goers pull up and watch from their chairs or right from their golf carts. Where else can you watch a movie on the beach? Visit the bulletin board in Phillip's Landing, where the ferry dock is located, for announcements of special offerings and events at Dinghy's and Heidi's; or just stop by and ask them! Residents know how to have a good time so don't be shy while on your visit. After a few days on Water Island you will probably get acquainted with much of the population, if you choose to, and can join them for a drink and a chat at Dinghy's and Heidi's! Conserve Water The fresh water source on Water Island is rain collected in cisterns. Please help conserve this natural resource (take short showers, don’t run the water while brushing your teeth or while doing dishes).
