Description

Long-time superhost on airbnb with a cabin and a cottage on this property, several years ago went to Florida to care for her very ill father, 93. Her main residence is available for rent plus a studio and a cottage on the same property! A unique opportunity for special folks! Located on the edge of the lovely San Cristobal de las Casas in the Chiapas Highlands cloud forest, at 7,000 feet altitude. Lush greenery, countryside, OMG!, trending, sometimes winter chillish nights. The space Furnished photojournalist's home available for single or couple, comfortably up to two couples; and/or with children; on the edge of the lovely city of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. ENDLESS HOT WATER, in NEW PASSTHROUGH BOILER. 1 km to town center, beautiful 10 minute walk. 2 km to central park and cathedral; 20 minute walk. 24/7 supermarket delivery, tortilla delivery, and some restaurant delivery to door. Pet-friendly. Nature reserve and organic garden. BBQ and permanent picnic table. Cheap taxis readily available for pickup or arrival. Home is made of brick with southern exposure skylights in kitchen and eco-friendly east side brick brown painted wall outside to preserve heat. San Cristobal de las Casas is located in the Chiapas highlands at over 7,000 feel (over 2,000 meters) so climate is cool all year long and in winter can even have light frosts at night to early morning. It's the central market for highland indigenous Maya communities so on any given day the population of 200 thousand increases to over 300 thousand. *1 living room with cathedral ceilings, fireplace, couch that can narrowly sleep one adult, large chair. Living room opens through bar to cozy kitchen with 4-burner stove with oven and bottom broiler, full-size refrigerator, microwave, electric coffee pot, toaster oven, blender. Dishes, utensils, pots and pans. *Internet wifi with good connection. *1 carpeted master office/bedroom with full-size bed, Sky TV with 1 large flat-screen HD, and closet area; next door through small hallway BATHROOM with rustic sunken shower/tub. *1 carpeted loft bedroom with full-size futon/bed and hammock, work table and chair. *1 dining room with rustic pine dining table for 6, handmade embroidered tablecloths and books available. *1/2 acre organic gardens available for picking what's available in season! Tons of apples and pears in the fall; winter gourmet lettuce; herbs galore and small strawberry patch. Trees with bird sanctuary especially nesting hummingbirds in spring. (2000 meter property completely walled in shared with 2 other smaller cottage/cabin rentals at the back, see my other properties listed on my host page.) *Shared BBQ, picnic table, swings and slide. *Small, quiet, parties allowed. *Owner/hostess is subletting indefinitely since she will be travelling to the Mideast. She's a bilingual Mexican-American published journalist, Fulbright scholar in Pre-Columbian Art History and licensed tour guide in Mexico; and she will be available remotely to advise you about going to Maya villages and ancient archaeological Maya ruins such as Tonina, in Ocosingo and further into the Lacandon rainforest: Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan. *Property is securely gated in a safe, patrolled, green neighborhood and valley where foreigners jog daily, with excellent views of the Guadalupe Church, mountains, the Fogotico River Valley, the El Encuentro Ecological Park. 15 minute walk or 3-minute drive to the town-square or "zocalo", taxi fare to downtown is about U.S. $3. *Interior driveway access parking secure if you bring a car. *Pet-friendly. You can bring your dogs as long as they are neutered male or female as Ginger, my Golden Retriever, is not spayed. Two cats live on the premises and are fed in the dining room of the main house but are not allowed into the rest of the house. You can bring your cats too. Should you not want the cats in the dining room either, it's possible to find an alternative. *1 shared washing machine managed by the housekeeper. Light housekeeper service included: 2x/week including one of the 2 times/week, wash and change provided linens and towels; she will wash your personal clothes at request for a small fee to cover the electric, soap and wear and tear of the machine. Cost is comparable to laundry mat in town. Please note: Housekeeper will come daily to feed the 2 cats that are only allowed in the dining room. At times, housekeeper will work out of the independent entrance basement room that is used to receive you and the cottage and cabin guests plus for storage. House Rental: Children under 6 are free (don't add them to your reservation) Electric included if you conserve, but does NOT include cost for gas for stove and hot-water heater for shower, which is about US$8/week and also NOT for wood for fireplace which costs about $25US per cubic meter chopped, according to usage. 1x Cleaning fee for before and after departure. Come visit for the most unique experience! Guest access There is a pedestrian door to the street and a sliding garage door gate if you bring a car. There is a gate between the driveway and the rest of the property that should stay closed so my dog Ginger does not go into the driveway. The dining room window remains open for cats to come and go and be fed by the housekeeper. There is a door from the dining room that locks from the rest of the house. The back outside dining room door remains unlocked for housekeeper to have access to this room where the dog and cat food are stored. Her name is Marta and she is very trustworthy having worked for owner for over two decades. You will love her. She is a native of the local village of Huixtan and speaks fluent Spanish and Tzotzil Maya but still does not read or write. Should you object to the cats in the dining room, upon request, other arrangements can be made for them to be fed elsewhere. You can use anything in the huge common garden, including the picnic table and bbq. You can pick fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables to eat when in season! Other things to note San Cristobal is the central market town for some million indigenous maya from all over the highlands. The small city has many attractions and is easily reachable to many indigenous towns as well. It is easy to travel to the Maya ruins of Tonina, Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan. Also further onward, to Campeche, Yucatan, Cancun; even Guatemala, some 3 hours from SCLC to the border. Since SCLC is in the highlands, the climate is ideal; never getting too hot or too cold for westerners; there is a rainy season in summer and dry-cold season in winter.
