Description

MAKE US AN OFFER FOR WINTER Season 2026 (32-day minimum rental) ! 95+ acres, heart-shaped private lake and tennis court. Easily accommodates four plus families. Located in the heart of ski, golf and cycling country, "Glenmere" also benefits from proximity to Lac Brome. This unique house includes 5-10 spacious bedrooms (many of them ensuite) a Great Room and a further two sitting rooms. Unlimited snowshoeing! Separate rental agreement and rental insurance required. The space Most bedrooms have king-sized beds, many with en-suite facilities. Several bedrooms can accommodate a family of four, either with an extra double bed in the room or with interconnected rooms. Glenmere has a wood-paneled "Great Room" with an electric fireplace, piano, and views of the lake. There is a further cozy library as well as a large TV room. A small office accommodates those who need to catch up on work. The eat-in country kitchen faces "Mitten Pond". There's also a more formal dining room. In the warmer months, guests can relax on the various covered porches, with spectacular views of the lake. Glenmere enjoys a private tennis court as well as a sturdy dock, where you can dive off, fish, or just sit and enjoy the view of your own lake. For the more intrepid, we have also carved out lovely paths around the lake. "Jane's Loop", named after the former Glenmere matriarch, is suitable for most walkers. Snowshoeing is absolutely magical. No need to get in a car and drive anywhere – it's right outside the door. Guests are warned, however, to prepare well before setting out and understand their limits. It is a very LARGE area, indeed. Beyond our extensive private land, the forest extends for many, many miles, with steep climbs and descents. Glenmere was the summer home of George Harold Baker, a lawyer and politician who was the only MP in Canada to be killed in action. A bronze statue of Baker stands in the lobby of the House of Commons, commemorating his actions in WWI. Glenmere is also the final resting place of Baker's horse "Morning Glory", Canada's very own "War Horse." A plaque remains in the back of the house. For those who wish to know more about Colonel Baker or Morning Glory, please get in touch and I can provide more information. --- Most rooms have king-size beds, most with private bathrooms. This well-loved house has its own charms and quirks -- like four staircases and a secret passage way. It is indeed a large country home, but it is not a hotel with staff. As this is a longer-term rental, guests will be asked to help out in terms of clearing paths of snow and making sure that the garbage is put out on the curb on time and in the correct manner. It is also in the middle of the woods so when things go wrong, like winter or summer storms, problems aren't immediately fixed. This is country living! -- Glenmere is about as old as Canada!
