Farm stay in rustic cottages near Graaff-Reinet

Van der Waltshoek is a pet-friendly farm situated 48 kilometers from Graaff-Reinet.Our rustic cottages have en-suite bathrooms and share a fully-equipped communal kitchen, stone fire pit and a pizza oven. For the brave, we have a private waterfall hike during the rainy season and a “boys’ trip” experience during the hunting season. It’s the perfect breakaway from the city life for nature lovers, tennis players, hunters, families and anyone who loves their coffee with breath taking mountain views The space The Waenhuis (built-in 1870): was initially used as horse stables. A little while later, the stables were extended to make room for the storage of horse carriages. The Waenhuis is our large dorm, where you will find 4-6 single beds with a bathroom equipped with a bathtub and shower. The Waenhuis has a communal area with a fully equipped kitchen, including a refrigerator, deep freeze, stove, microwave, oven, kettle, and other necessities. It runs through to a dining room and living area with couches. Outside on the stoep, a shaded table overlooks the dam and can be used for lunch, evening meals, and social gatherings. Merino Cottage: The Merino cottage has two single beds and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Rooihartebees Cottage: The Rooihartebees cottage contains one double bed and one single bed with an en-suite bathroom and shower. Washuis Cottage: The Washuis is a separate building of 2 rooms that walks out on a stoep area, fire pit, and a deck area overlooking the dam. The one room has a double bed with an ensuite bathroom. The second room has two single beds, a small fridge, a microwave, and a coffee station. Other things to note Self-catering: Van der Waltshoek is 48 km from the nearest town, Graaff-Reinet. Therefore bring along all food and beverages for your stay. Coffee and Tea will be provided. Fire wood is available for R70 per bag Meals: Breakfast and Dinner can be provided, but needs to be strictly booked in advance. We need enough time to do the provisioning and preparation of food. We are not a restaurant, but love to cook from our kitchen to give our guests the full farm experience. - Breakfast: R 150 per person - Dinner: R 250 per person Water: The fountain water from the tap is consumable, but you are welcome to bring along your own filtered water if you prefer it. Cell phone signal: Only Vodacom cell phone reception is available. Wifi is available outside loadshedding hours. Vehicle: Please note that you will be driving on a well-maintained gravel road. Sportscars won’t bring you far. Activities: Bring along your hiking shoes for the hike to our beautiful private waterfall, your tennis gear for the clay tennis court, binoculars and camaras for animal and birdwatching and bicycles for exploring the farm.
