Sangomore Hill Cottage

Get away from it all in the far north of Scotland and relax with the whole family at this peaceful cottage. Located just off the NC500, but far enough away that there is no traffic or noise. The cottage sits on top of Sangomore Hill, overlooking the village, with views out to sea and behind to the hills. The space The house is up a little track overlooking Durness and sits on its own, surrounded by beautifully fresh air, heather and sheep! Upstairs has recently been redecorated and has new carpets. It is a calm, cosy, light space with amazing views for miles - up to the mountains and out to sea. Plus at night time there are the incredible stars and the added thrill of the northern lights if you're lucky. It is beautifully bright and sunny on calm days and then very exciting during a storm, with the wind buffeting the countryside and the waves crashing against the rocks. There are 3 double bedrooms (one with ensuite bathroom) and a bunk room, with space for 4 children. There is also a second bathroom downstairs which has been newly renovated with large walk in electric shower. The house is very much set up for families. There are plenty of toys, games and books, so you don't need to bring anything with you apart from your favourite teddy. A travel cot (and highchair) are available on request. Downstairs there is an L-shaped kitchen, stocked with lots of pots, pans, crockery and glasses and there is a dishwasher to make life a bit easier on your holidays. All the basics will be there. The dining-room is adjacent to the kitchen with a handy serving hatch and the table can be extended to seat 10-12 people. Next to the kitchen, there is a small back porch for hanging coats etc.. There is a pull out drying rack in here for any wet gear, plus a dehumidifier and welly boot dryer. If possible, please try to keep as much sand outside and welly boots can be kept in the 'outhouse'. However, this is a great little space for drying a few bits and bobs. And finally there is a large sunroom and sitting room with plenty of sofas and chairs for everyone to be together. There is a chess table and a card table for some serious game playing and countless jigsaws, board games and books to keep you busy on your holiday. There is also WIFI if needed. We really hope you enjoy your stay. Guest access You will have full access to the whole house. Other things to note Please note, there is no television at the property and therefore no TV license. There are plenty of toys, books and board games and there is WIFI. The cottage is used regularly by our family and so there will be personal things in some of the drawers and cupboards. There is plenty of space for you to unpack, so please don't worry about that, but just to be aware that it won't be an empty house. The house is in the process of being updated. Heating and hot water are still awaiting renewal, so please read all instructions in the welcome folder on arrival. The heating is via electric radiators with an old fashioned time dial, so this will need to be programmed - there are instructions in the house. The hot water is via an immersion tank, which takes about an hour or so to heat up. It will only fill one bath at a time. The water is VERY HOT so please be careful when using the hot taps, especially with children. Please be mindful of the environment and turn off the heating when you go out for the day.
