Description

Dwarfed by the majesty of the landscape, Solitude Lodge is a place where fun, family, and peace combine. Perched on top an ancient glacial moraine, Solitude Lodge is perfect for couples, families and groups of outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate a quiet space or a base to explore from. Convenient to the local township and only 40 minutes to the international airport, we warmly welcome all who treasure time with family, friends and the outdoors. The space Are you seeking a retreat amidst breathtaking landscapes? Look no further than Solitude Lodge, nestled in the valley between the Kingston and Garston townships in the South Island. This picturesque region is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wide range of activities year-round. From fly fishing and mountain biking / cycling in the summer to hunting and snow sports in the winter, this destination has something for everyone. The Lodge itself is a testament to minimalist yet functional design, drawing inspiration from Scandinavian chalets. With sleek black cladding that seamlessly blends into the mountainside, the Lodge provides a peaceful and cozy sanctuary from the elements. Step inside and feel the warmth and inviting atmosphere, created by contrasting ply ceilings and oak floors. The floor-to-ceiling windows and doors frame breathtaking views of the surrounding Eyre and Hector mountain ranges, creating a calm and relaxing space. Designed with your comfort and convenience in mind, the interior features a single open-plan room that serves as a hub for essential activities such as cooking, resting, and relaxing. The gourmet kitchen with stone benchtops provides the perfect opportunity to whip up a tasty meal before settling back on the inviting couch for a Netflix binge. Three cozy sleeping areas offer a peaceful retreat, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day spent exploring the great outdoors. Step outside onto the Lodge's massive timber decks, where you can take in the view of the majestic Eyre Mountain range. The Lodge's location also provides a unique feature - the vintage Kingston Flyer train is within touching distance. Experience a blast from the past as the train makes its long-awaited return on weekends during the warmer months. See the Kingston Flyer's schedule on their website for more details. For the cyclists, the popular Around the Mountains cycle trail conveniently runs past the bottom of the property. From the lodge it's an easy 15- 20-minute ride to the Kingston Cafe and Bar for lunch and dinner. We encourage our guests to roam around the Lodge's 5 acres and soak up the sunshine. The Lodge can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people and offers a range of amenities, including a huge log burner and ducted heat pump to keep you warm during the colder months. It is fully furnished with an open plan living space and equipped with WiFi for your convenience. The bedrooms feature hotel-quality bed linen and guest towels, and the bathroom is stocked with body care products. The well-equipped kitchen includes a gas cooker and oven, along with kitchen basics like cooking oil, salt, and pepper. Southern Aurora's are relatively common in winter but rug up!! Guest access The main pavilion (3 bedroom self contained house ) and the garage. Other things to note We are uniquely able to cater for hunting and fishing parties, with helicopters able to land on the property to enable access to some of the best back country fishing / hunting and skiing in the Southern Hemisphere. There are some unique differences about being in our country setting which may not be for everyone. We are in a rural setting which can mean snow, heat, bugs, sheep, other livestock and birds. If you are after nightclubs, parties and the choice of many restaurants then we may not be the right location for you. However, if what you're after is AMAZING mountain views out of every window, curling up in front of the fire and a night sky you’ll rave about to your friends then you've come to the right place. While children are welcome to stay, parents should be aware that there is no fire guard around the log burner. A note about the "neighbours": We're a lodge surrounded by fields and mountains. As such we are surrounded by wildlife all the time. While our lodge is completely vermin proof, sheep, hares, hedgehogs, field mice and birds can enter the lodge through open doors. We recommend that you keep the access doors closed at all times especially when leaving the lodge alone for periods of time, and use the windows or ducted air conditioning for airflow, in order to avoid unwanted visits :) IMPORTANT **WEATHER POLICY** Solitude Lodge is in a rural area, as such the roads to and from Kingston can (not common but possible) become blocked in very unusual weather events due to high amounts of snowfall. This is beyond our control. It is the guest's responsibility to keep track of upcoming weather events. In the event that unusually high snowfall is predicted and the guest chooses to relocate elsewhere, Solitude Lodge will accept a cancellation and issue a refund on any unused night if notified before checkout. A weather forecast from a reputable weather forecasting service must be used as documentation for the cancellation.
