Description

Boat, swim, fish, sit around the fire, and let the outside world fade away. Our cedar-shingled lakefront cabin is a hand-built charmer — literally. A family of 6 built it themselves from 1970-73. Nestled into a hillside overlooking a serene, fern-lined cove, the property is tucked away and absolutely magical. Give us a follow on IG @thechampagneofcoves The space We chose this house in part for its original details — 70s wood paneling, cantilevered windows, and all. We renovated the ground floor using salvaged 70s sinks and fixtures and a healthy dose of fresh-cut pine to preserve the mid-century cabiny charm. You'll enter on the second floor, which is one open room with a vaulted ceiling and original paneling top-to-bottom. In the center is a large, stone chimney column with a wood stove. Sitting area, dining table, and kitchen are all part of this open room, along with sliding doors to a deck that overlooks the water. Down a spiral staircase in the center of the house, you'll find 4 bedrooms and two full baths. Outside, there's a stone campfire ring with Adirondack chairs set under some shady trees, a newly re-planked cedar dock, and plenty of privacy (ours is a double lot near the end of a dirt road, with a quiet neighbor one one side and undeveloped woodland on the other). We keep plant life on the property natural and woodsy in order to preserve the healthy ecosystem of our shoreline and lake. The native ferns and blueberry bushes set the scene and create an unspoiled setting. Guest access You have the whole place to yourself. Unless you count the bald eagles who sometimes fish from our shoreline or the beavers who swim by. Feel free to use our boats: - Kayak with extra jump seat - Kids kayak - 2 adult stand-up paddle boards - Kids paddle board - Pedal boat - Inner tubes with drink holders The water is shallow in our cove and absolutely pristine. A vibrant and well-tended ecosystem of aquatic plants and other pond life keep it that way. We've been catching bass, trout, perch, and pike right from our shoreline. Sit on our dock and read a book or wade right in. Our kids love the wooded nature of the property. There are big rocks to climb on; salamanders, frogs, and turtles to catch; and we set up a slack line with swings and jungle gym add-ons. To avoid introducing invasive species, you unfortunately cannot launch your own boats in the lake. Guests also cannot use the Lake Association beach or game trails, but the swimming from our dock is terrific anyways and we can recommend many great hikes nearby. Other things to note We fell head-over-heels in love with this place and spend lots of time here. If you're looking for a rustic 70s cabin with a touch of modern on a quiet lake where children can run free and adults can get away from it all, you've found it.
