Virginia Gardens is a suburb of Miami, staying in this calm neighborhood offers to the tourist and residents an urban suburban mix feel. In this area you could fine a lot of bars, restaurants, and parks to have a relax day out of the city, is located 9 miles northwest of downtown Miami, it is bordered to the north and east by the city of Miami Springs and to the south by Miami International Airport. TRANSPORTATION AND MAIN LOCATIONS Miami is the seventh largest city in the United States and has a good public transport system. To move around the city in an economical way, public transport is the best option. How to get around Miami: Transportation (We listed 8 ways to get around Miami by public transport or private services) 1. MIAMI METROBUS (BUSES) The Metrobus is the bus system of the city of Miami. It extends from Miami Beach to downtown Miami (Downtown). It has plenty of buses to traverse various routes. Miami’s bus network connects with all public transport systems, making it ideal for combining your commute. It is also a good option to get around at night, as the metrobus has several routes that operate 24h non-stop. 2. METRORAIL (ELEVATED TRAIN) The Metrorail is Miami’s elevated rail system. It travels a total of 22 miles across the city from north to south. It consists of two lines (green and orange). The Metrorail stops at important tourist attractions such as Brickell, Coconut Grove, Vizcaya and Downtown. It is a good option to travel long distances quickly. You can connect with the bus system. The orange line connects the Miami International Airport with downtown, very useful for transfers if you are arriving by plane. 3. CITYWIDE FREE TROLLEY These buses operate several routes in Miami Beach for free. It is one of the best ways to get around this area of Miami, as sometimes finding parking is difficult and expensive. The trolley service is completely free and runs between 15 and 35 minutes (depending on the route). There are 4 main routes: South Beach Loop, Middle Beach Loop, Collins Express and North Beach Loop. The most used is the South Beach line which has 3 different routes with several stops. Citywide Free Trolley operates from 6 am to 12 pm every day except Sunday when the tour starts at 8am. 4. METROMOVER (FREE) The Metromover is an automated system of buses that run in a loop and run on rails. The Metromover network runs approximately 5 miles and only circulates through downtown Miami. The system consists of three loops and 23 stations. It is a quick and easy way to get around the main neighborhoods of downtown. Its main peculiarity is that you will not have to pay anything to get on the Metromover. It is therefore the most economical way to move around the center, as it is totally free. There are also other forms of transport that can be interesting in some situations (for example to make airport transfers): car rental, Uber, Lyft, taxis... Here are the best ways to get around Miami. 5. RENTING A VEHICLE (CAR, MOTORBIKE...) If you want complete mobility, the best option is to rent a car. Car rental in Miami is quite economical just like fuel. However, keep in mind that to park in tourist areas, you will have to do so in the parking lots and almost all are for a fee. The streets and tourist areas have car parks that work every day until midnight. If you choose to rent a car, it is advisable to have a GPS (sometimes you can ask at the time of booking). To rent a car in Miami, you need to have a driving license, have more than 25 years and 2 experience. It is advisable to have the international license Driving in Miami What should you know? If you come from Europe, there are several things you should keep in mind when driving in the United States: Speed limits must be respected and these are indicated in miles per hour. 1 mile = 1.62km. As in Europe, you have to stop before the crossings, but in the United States the traffic lights are located after the crossing, so you have to be careful and stop in time. You can turn right at the crossings even if the traffic light is red, making a short stop to check that no one crosses (as if it were a STOP). 6. TRI-RAIL (TRAIN) If the purpose of the trip is to travel outside the city of Miami, you can use the Tri-Rail system. These trains run from MIA Airport north to West Palm Beach and Mangonia Park, passing through Fort Lauderdale. It is a good method to travel through the county, avoiding tolls and traffic jams that form on some roads. 7. UBER AND LYFT IN MIAMI If you choose Uber, this service is a good option to move around Miami. You must download the app on your mobile and follow the instructions to use it. 8. TAXI AROUND MIAMI Getting around Miami by taxi can usually be a bit expensive. They have a starting cost of $2.50 and a fee of $0.40 per 1.6 mile. However, due to its comfort, it is still one of the most common ways of getting around among tourists. Most Miami taxis are yellow and are easy to get in South Beach or major tourist areas. The city of Miami is located next to the Atlantic Ocean, which allows you to enjoy a fairly mild, hot and sunny climate. Even in summer the sea breeze can be quite refreshing due to the high humidity levels. Between the months of June and September temperatures range from 77F to 90F degrees, while in winter, the wind chill and the environment in general remain quite mild, with a temperature between 55F and 77F degrees. Anyway, it is important to keep in mind that it has a rainy season that goes from October to May and a dry season from November to April. This makes January the coldest month of the year and August the warmest. In addition to the beautiful beaches and its tropical climate, Miami is known for the wide variety of fauna and vegetation, whose popularity comes from the permanent greenery that predominates in its streets and avenues.
