Vayu: A Tranquil Himalayan Home

Nestled on the edge of a funnel-shaped valley in a picturesque hamlet called Nathuakhan and accessible only by a leisurely ten-minute stroll down an idyllic village path shaded by a lush canopy of oak trees, Vayu is a serene 05 Bedroom home that offers the rare chance to slow-down and breathe. Cradled by the Kumaon hills, at just 45 km from Nainital, this immersive mountain home made of stone and seasoned wood is the perfect place to indulge yourself in a moment of bliss and serenity. ​ The space The design and architecture of Hushstay x Vayu puts the four natural elements of Earth, Fire, Water and Air at its core. By virtue of being located on the mouth of an expansive valley, it is always breezy and wind-swept. ​ The entire retreat sits over almost an acre of land. It takes up less than one-tenth of the space leaving the remaining part of the land to a variety of native trees like oak, rhododendron, deodar, winter-cherry and innumerable fruiting trees such as apple, peach, apricot and walnut. Most of the organic, seasonal vegetables are also grown on the estate. ​ Mornings usually see a dollop of sunshine here while afternoons could witness a bit of drama as the clouds come shrouding the sun. The living room, bedrooms & attic have large glass windows which allow for plenty of sunlight to stream in through the day and make for the most astonishing moon-lit nights. The wooden floors, soft rugs and plush beddings, all elevate an easy-going ambience. ​ A brief stroll down from the cottage is The Deck - the perfect place to find your quietude. At an elevation of almost 20 feet from the ground, this wooden deck at the land’s end literally leaves you with the surreal joy of flying over the valley. The staff yearns to make the guests feel special. Besides the mouth-watering dishes on the menu, a barbecue soirée can also be setup at an additional cost and on prior intimation. Other things to note - The walk to Vayu Retreat is about 500 steps (7-8 minutes) from where cars are parked. It is a scenic walk through a forest road. - We have 8 dogs of our own and they make us who we are. They are a part of our family and are usually very happy to see guests who give them affection. - Bonfire/ Sigdi can be set up at an additional cost of 1000/- rupees. - Fireplace/ Firestove charges are 1000/- rupees for one time. Barbecue charges are additional. - We levy a nominal luggage transfer charge of 50/- per bag to carry the bags from the parking to the property. - Meal Timings are : Breakfast 8.30. 10.30 AM | Lunch 1-2.30PM | Dinner 8-10PM We request you to order your meals accordingly. Outside food is not allowed in the villa. - Guests are not allowed access to the kitchen. - Bachelor groups & stag parties are not allowed. - For security reasons and to abide with homestay regulations, we have CCTVs in the common living space as well as the outdoor spaces. - We do not encourage parties and late night revelry. Loud music is not permitted in the premises. - Smoking inside the cottage is strictly prohibited due to fire hazards. - We do not sell or serve alcohol. Please bring your own but drink responsibly - Guests are requested to take care of all personal valuables. Management is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to any items Alcohol consumption on the deck is not permitted. - Children unaccompanied by adults are not permitted on the deck. - Only tea & coffee is served at the Deck. Guests are requested not to use the Deck after sunset. - Electricity and Water are limited resources in the mountains. We urge our guests to use them consciously. - We are an Earth-friendly retreat and believe in sustainable living. Our guests are requested to carry their non-biodegradable trash back with them and dispose it of responsibly. - Guest cannot invite other guests and day visitors during their stay. Our staff is there to cook and look after you and the estate. Please refrain from using them for any personal errands. - As required by law, every guest above 18 years must carry government- approved photo ID proof, that shows address. We accept only Aadhar Cards, Driving Licenses and Passports. - In case of any damage to the property/furniture/fixtures/guests will be levied a fine against the same. - In appropriate behavior or violation of any of the above House Rules will invite a polite refusal to accept a Booking. - If already checked in, Management reserves the right to ask guests to leave. Illegal activities including but not limited to carrying/ consuming-drugs/narcotics and carrying firearms/weapons are prohibited on the property. Management reserves the right to report any such activity to local authorities.
