Beautiful and spacious house in Center Merida. Traditional materials and modern amenities. 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms. Open kitchen and living room, pool, garden, terrace with dining room and living room. WiFi and A/C plus fans. Our beautiful house is located in Merida Centro, close to Paseo Montejo, the main and most beautiful avenue that connects the traditional Merida with the new and more modern part of the city. The house has double height ceilings and pasta floors, honoring the classic Merida style. Here you will find the best of both worlds: all the amenities you will need to make a great and relaxing vacation while you enjoy the ambiance and tranquility of a Mexican house. The rooms The main bedroom has a king size bed, TV, closet and a very spacious bathroom. From the main bedroom you can exit to the garden, pool, and all the common areas of the house where you will be able to enjoy the warm weather. The second room has two double beds, TV, air conditioner, closet, bathroom with its own private little garden. This bedroom opens to the garden and pool. The third bedroom is on the upper floor, accesible from the terrace. From here you will be able to enjoy a little more privacy and breathtakings views of the Centro at night. It has one king size bed, A/C, closet, bathroom. Just outside this bedroom you will find another terrace with a lounging place to rest or take the sun during the day. There is another full bathroom next to the pool. Too hot? Do not worry! Turn on the ceiling fan in your bedrooms and or the air conditioner and enjoy. You can also take a relaxing nap on the very comfortable hammocks just outside the bedrooms or refresh in the pool. There are also ceiling fans in the living room, the dining room, the kitchen and the main terrace. The kitchen We tried to maintain a typical flair in the kitchen while adding modern appliances. In the kitchen area you will find: Fridge Stove Oven Toaster oven Microwave Blender Pots and pans China, mantelpieces and cutlery for 12 Glasses and wine glasses Serving trays and more Please feel free to use everything as if you were in you own house. Here is some useful information to make your stay more comfortable. WiFi access throughout the house. Electric door control Parking space for one car. If you rented a car there is a spare control for the electric door, please ask for it and remember to return it the last day of your stay. Thank you! House keys You will have a set of keys, please close the main door at night and do not forget to leave them when you go back home. Pool towels The house has special pool towels (blue and white or blue and yellow). We would really appreciate if you use only this for the pool. If you take them out (to the beach for example) please be sure to bring them back. Water Water from the faucet is not suitable for drinking in most parts of Mexico. Please buy bottled water (jugs and bottles with clear labels are OK) and stay safe. Everyday (except Sundays) Librada, the housekeeper, will be at your house in the morning to make the beds, give the house a general cleaning and help you a little bit in the kitchen if you like. She makes great salsa with habanero chile! In the house you will find a booklet with more information about the house, its surroundings, walking distance attractions and useful websites. Since the Spanish conquest, Mérida has been the cultural capital of the entire peninsula. How to "navigate" the Centro (Downtown) Most streets in Mérida Centro are numbered, not named, and most run one-way. North–south streets have even numbers, which descend from west to east, east–west streets have odd numbers, which ascend from north to south. Street addresses are confusing because they don't progress in even increments by blocks, for example, the 600s may occupy two or more blocks. A particular location is therefore usually identified by indicating the street number and the nearest cross street, as in "Calle 64 and Calle 61," or "Calle 64 between Calles 61 and 63," which is written "Calle 64 x 61 y 63." Getting food The market There is a traditional market eight blocks away. Visit it before noon. In the "Mercado Lucas de Gálvez" you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, handcrafts, shoes, typical dresses. In the house we have some bags to do the shopping, feel free to use them. The market is on Calle 65 and 69 between Calle 56 and 56A Convenience store Right across the house is a "Cervefrío" where you can buy the basics (water, milk, ice, some canned goods, snacks, beer). Walmart On Paseo Montejo, not very far from the house, you can walk (30 minutes approximately) but under the sun and with grocery bags this is quite a challenge, we recommend taking the car if possible. Where to eat? La Chaya Maya Our favorite! Situated four blocks away from the house (across the Plaza de Santa Lucía) is located in an old renovated house. The perfect place to try some local food! Opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Calle 55 between 60 and 62 Los Almendros Two blocks away on the Mejorada Park is one of the most traditional restaurants in Mérida. Cochinita is great and also if you feel adventurous order the dulce de papaya with cheese. Calle 57 x 50 and 52 Mejorada Park Ki'Xcocolatl Also on the Santa Lucía Plaza is Ki'Xcocolatl a very special chocolate and coffee store, their approach marries premium quality chocolates in an attractive packaging and the legendary practices of the mayan culture. If you go to the Ecomuseo del Cacao during your stay (close to Uxmal) you will see how this organic chocolate is made. Calle 60 No. 471 Local 5 x Calle 55, Plaza Santa Lucía What to visit Downtown? Walking from the house to the main plaza o Jardín Central is a pleasurable trip by itself. We recommend you take your time to enjoy the different plazas and shops. The Calle 59 is one of our favorites but we try to take different routes every time. Main Plaza (Plaza Grande / Jardín Central) This is the heart of the historic Mérida Center Calle 61 and 60 The Cathedral (La Catedral) Renaissance-style architecture and towers exceeding 40 meters, is the oldest cathedral of Central America, has dome adorned with bows and still retains an old clock that served to give time to the meridians. You can continue your visit on 60th Street where you will find restaurants, craft shops and traditional clothing, hotels and other buildings with great architectural value. On the 67 and 56th you will find the Popular Market, City Museum and other museums free to visit. Want to have fun? La Fundación Mezcalería La Fundación is a kitch and cool "mezcalería" really close to the house. Locals from all Merida and tourists enjoy drinking mezcal straight or in cocktails (made with tamarind, hibiscus, passion fruit, and other combinations). Don't forget to bring your ID no matter how mature you look. Calle 56 No.465 between 55 and 53 How to get to your new house: From the airport. Take a cab. Merida taxis are simple but very safe. In the airport you will find an official Taxi stand. The fare to the Centro is around 200 pesos. It is customary to tip the driver if he helps you with the luggage. If you are renting a car in the airport just put the address in your phone GPS. I recommend you rent the car beforehand, especially during high season. I have a very spacious garage in the house so don't worry, you will have plenty space to park. To visit all the great places around Merida (wonderful sinkholes AKA cenotes, archeological sites, beaches, colonial towns, haciendas and more) I strongly suggest you rent a car. There are also some tours and if you feel more adventurous you can take the local buses. PLEASE do not lose or misplace the house keys. We don't have many sets and finding a locksmith in Merida is an ordeal especially on vacations / weekends. Librada lives far from the Centro so please don´t make her go in the night to open you a bathroom door. You can find more keys inside the drawers in the little armoire at the entrance of the big house or in the maple armoire in the little house.
