The Surprise - Carol's Attic

La Sorpresa is a late 1800s modernised farmhouse surrounded by nature, situated on a hillside just above a thriving village - 10 minutes walk by mule track or 3 minutes drive. Our accommodation is suited to travellers who would like to relax (or work) and enjoy our house, garden, 5 x 10m salt water pool and the beautiful surrounding hills or who want a base to explore this part of Tuscany (Lucca, Florence, Pisa, Garfagnana and the coast are all within easy day trip distance). The space The guest suite is in the attic on the second floor of the house. The suite consists of a bedroom, bathroom and sitting area. The entire floor is your private space for the duration of your stay. In the sitting area there is a sofa, smart TV, mini fridge and a small kettle. Towels, pool towels, simple toiletries and a hairdryer are provided. The attic is accessed via a square spiral staircase from the first floor. (There is a normal staircase from ground to first floor.) The spiral staircase is a comfortable size - not overly narrow or steep - see photo. Our accommodation is not suitable for young children - there are floor level windows and the pool is not fenced. We have two dogs and three cats. They are part of the family and live in the house so our guests need to be comfortable with cats and dogs. The dogs don’t go in the attic and you can shut the bedroom door to keep the cats out if you wish. Guest access Guests are welcome to make themselves at home in the common areas of the house - sitting room, dining room, kitchen, boot room/downstairs toilet (note boot room and downstairs toilet are functional but currently unrenovated). Please see “house rules” for details of kitchen use. The garden also has several places to sit and enjoy …….. and of course there is the pool. The pool is private to our house and is only used by us and our guests. The pool is open all year round - it is not heated. The attic is the only space in the house available on Airbnb except during the week of “Lucca Comics and Games” (see note below). During your stay We are generally around …… some days at home or working on the garden or on the olive terraces, otherwise out and about locally. We will give you our phone number in case you cannot find us. Other things to note Please be aware that we are in a rural location in North Tuscany therefore insects and wildlife are commonplace. We have no additional charges - tourist tax is already included in the price. Note about Lucca Comics and Games: During the week of “Lucca Comics” and the “Borgo a Mozzano Halloween Festival” two other rooms in the house are available on Airbnb. During this week use of the kitchen is only for quick and simple snack and drinks preparation and there will be limited fridge space as there are likely to be other Airbnb guests around.
