This is a quiet neighborhood (no parties allowed). The beauty of this area is year-round, with beach access. There is a path behind the house that leads over the dunes and down to the lake. It is marvelous to walk down there year-round or to sit up on the dunes and watch ships, kayaks, etc. go by while enjoying a glass of wine. Please note that poison ivy is on large areas of the dunes anywhere on Park Point. Stay on the carpeted path on your way to the beach to avoid running into it. Guests can enter the front door with a door code. Host will usually greet you at the door. Please ask for any help that you may need getting around Duluth, Canal Park, things to do, etc. I am laid back and very respectful of your privacy. If you want total privacy, that is fine, please let me know about your communication preference. Canal Park is trendy old warehouse district; a bustling neighborhood of shops and restaurants, two miles away. If you like long walks, it is. possible to walk there, and is fun to walk via the beach there or back. Buses run on Park Point every hour beginning around 6:00 am until 7:00 pm so you can also catch a bus to and from Canal Park for 75 cents each way! While down in Canal Park enjoy shopping, dining and using the boardwalk right on Lake Superior! It is a great place for people watching or to view the amazing lake traffic going through the canal, including 1000-foot freighters moving through (see schedule for boat arrivals and to know when the bridge is going up). The sidewalk in front of the property is likewise enjoyable and safe to use even in the early evening hours. Also popular on Park Point are biking, roller blading, kayaking (bring your own!), canoeing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Please make note that in the summer when boats are going through the canal and the bridge is up (we call this being “bridged”), the traffic can extend quite a ways down the point. If you have to be somewhere at a specific time, especially in the summer months, make sure to leave early. Check out the online schedule for boat arrivals. Also, in winter when we have snowfalls, allow for 12 hours time to get plowed out (usually much faster, but one never knows). Please remove shoes in the entranceway, to keep the floors clean. Vacation Rental House Rules No parties. No overnight uninvited guests. Pets are not allowed. License: PLAHS2207-003 Guest access Guests can use the downstairs living room, dining room and microwave in the kitchen. The rest of the kitchen is for host only. The house is owner occupied but most of the time, you will have the shared spaces to yourself. During your stay I will be around most days but I spend most of that either in the kitchen downstairs for mealtime prep and eating, and the rest of the time I am upstairs. This will allow for guests to have the downstairs, including the living room with TV, or the dining room and kitchen eating area to themselves most of the time. Please ask how to operate the sauna and plan for 45 minutes to one hour for it to heat up, depending on how hot you like it. If you are here for a weeklong stay, you can ask host for laundry directions. Jon lives in the cottage behind the house and is available to help out if needed, or to prepare the firepit, barbeque, etc. You can give him a call if you cannot get ahold of me. Other things to note Quiet time at night is 10:00. AC is included with a portable machine for the bedroom; if the temperature outside is hot, the living room can be uncomfortable in July and August, and there is no AC in the downstairs besides the bedroom.
