This historic home was the home of our local hometown hero, Mrs. Virginia Tillett. Virginia was an educator, community leader and longtime Dare County elected official. She served Dare County, its citizens and children in elected office, first on the Dare County Board of Education for 20 years and the Board of Commissioners for a dozen years. She will long be remembered for the passionate way she promoted education and for the life-changing impact she has had on generations of students and so many others in Dare County. Virginia was a sweet woman who cherished her family and loved Dare County in a special way. We invite you to come enjoy this special island and this historic, newly renovated home in the heart of Manteo. The Home: * 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms * Single level living (only a few steps up to the front door) * Home Generator System; the home is completely backed by a generator to automatically power the entire home if the home were to lose power * Central heating and air conditioning * Outdoor deck with grill and patio furniture, large front lawn * Gas log fireplace in the family room is for guest use during the colder months. There are no shared spaces inside the home or the yard. The only exception is that a portion of the driveway's concrete is connected with the driveway belonging to the neighbors just past the home. Other things to note - The home can accommodate multiple vehicles, if you have more than 4 vehicles please reach out to your host for specific parking instructions. We can accommodate boat and trailer parking, please reach out to the host prior to booking with specific information on size of your boat or your trailer. - The fireplace is propane gas, see online listing house manual for use instructions. Make sure these are off at night prior to sleeping or when the home is not occupied. - Wood is not provided for the firepit, wood bundles are sold at the Piggly Wiggly a couple blocks away. - There is a gas grill, propane is provided. -We provide enough starter items to get through a day or so. You will receive a few rolls of toilet paper, 1 roll of paper towels, dish soap + sponge, several trash bags, starter amount of ground coffee + Keurig pods, sugar packets, we have a dispenser in the shower containing: shampoo/conditioner/body wash. Also provide are a few dishwasher pods & laundry pods. Anything more than this will need to be purchased by you. - There is a shared driveway with the neighboring house to the rear. - The home's backup generator system does a weekly check around 11am every Sunday, you will not lose power but you may hear the system doing its checks for a few minutes. - Hurricane season is June to November, please see Airbnb policy regarding weather events: "Weather events, natural conditions, and diseases that are excluded from our Extenuating Circumstances Policy" There will be no refunds related to weather events. If this concerns you I encourage you to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance is available through Airbnb and you will be presented with the option to add trip insurance prior to confirming your booking. However, early check-in is not guaranteed, and we’re unable to provide a specific time in advance. ★ CHECK-OUT: By 10 AM To ensure the home is ready for the next guest, we are unable to accommodate late check-outs. Please note that our cleaners charge an infraction fee of $50 for every 15 minutes past 10 AM if they are required to wait for guests to depart.
