Potato Hill is an exquisite property idyllically located on Man-O-Cay in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas. The property runs "sea to sea" offering beach access as well as a dock on the harbor. Potato Hill is comprised of three houses: One Potato, Two Potato and New Potato, each with its own exceptional water views. The lush grounds, almost 2 acres in size, offer plenty of privacy. Potato Hill has always been a place of joy and respite for our family and we are delighted to share it. The beauty and serenity of Potato Hill is hard to put into words. The three houses are connected by sand paths interwoven through the lush landscaping making you feel as if you are on your on private island. The main house is perched above the beach with remarkable views of the pristine white sand beach and crystal blue water. It is light and airy with high ceilings and french doors across the front of the house. We have hosted large groups of friends and families over the years and the property is well-suited to it. There are several dining options both inside and out. The large covered back and front porches have ample seating. The side deck has bench seating and chaise lounge chairs for sunbathing. The guest house Old Potato is from the 1950s and in the traditional Bahamian style. Bahamas shutters are on all sides and the house can be opened to enjoy the breezes off the harbor. It has a lovely front porch with seating and dining overlooking the harbor. The newer "snore box" New Potato is a one bedroom suite with adjoining bath and outdoor shower. It too has views of the harbor from the front porch. Guests will have access to all three houses, the dock and beach, the shed with a chest freezer and whole house generator and the boat shed where tools, fishing equipment and water toys are stored. Our caretakers Mandy and Philip Sands live on the island and will be available during your stay to answer any questions or resolve any issues. Potato Hill is located on Man-O-War Cay, one of the family islands of the Abacos. It is a small island approximately 2.5 miles in length centered by a thriving local community. Potato Hill is outside of the settlement, off of the Queen's Highway, the second house after the pavement turns to dirt. The property runs sea to sea, harbor to ocean. Although there are houses on either side, "Sweet Potato" and "Time Out of Mind", Potato Hill remains very private due to its lush and plentiful landscaping. In the settlement, there are many local businesses anchored by Albury's Sail Shop, known for its colorful and sturdy bags as well as a grocery store and a coffee shop. Albury Brothers boats started on the island and boats are still being made on the island today. There are few cars on the island. Rather, golf carts and boats are the primary means of transportation. The locals welcome visitors and are friendly, helpful and happy to share their wealth of knowledge of all things Bahamian. If arriving by Air, take a ferry from Marsh Harbour to Man-O-War Cay. Check the schedule and make sure there is a convenient scheduled trip. Otherwise, you may charter a ferry. Mandy can assist with making that reservation or you can reach out to G & L Ferry directly. RENT GOLF CARTS ASAP. The primary mode of transportation on the island is by golf cart. Golf carts may be rented from Carts R Us on MOW. Mandy can assist you with the rental but please request well in advance. RENT A BOAT ASAP: If you are bringing your own boat, please check the coordinates and make sure it will accommodate your boat. The coordinates for the Dock are: 26 36 01.41 N 77 00 31.53 W If you are not bringing your own boat, it is imperative that you rent a boat for your stay and you should make your reservation ASAP. There are several companies. Conch Pearl Boat Rentals is on MOW and run by Dave Albury. Others include Island Marine on Parrot Cay, just outside the entrance to Hopetown and in Marsh Harbour: CJ's Abaco Dorado Boat Rentals, Blue Wave Boat Rental and Donny's. Mandy can assist you with the rental but please request well in advance. Potato Hill is equipped with a whole house generator set to come on automatically in the event of a power outage. Recent upgrades include new refrigerators in the main house and guest house and a new dishwasher in the guest house. The ping pong table has been replaced and outdoor dining on the lower level has been added. Chaise loungers have also been added on the deck of the main house. The TVs have all been replaced and the Wi-Fi has been upgraded. Additionally, there are new steps to the beach. We are constantly updating and making changes to the property to provide an excellent experience for our guests.
