Decompress, gather and relax in this historic 2,400 sq. ft. home The space Welcome to the Reid House- circa 1830 3197 County Route 30 Salem, New York 12865 We hope you enjoy our attractive and historic, 2,400 sq. ft., well-furnished home. The house was built by James Reid circa 1830s who operated multiple mills on this property (grist, saw, and shingle). The house was passed to his son, John and wife Emma, in 1901. John continued in the family business and Emma perused the craft (and sale for her products) of pyrography. The Reid House has a large living room perfect for gathering and relaxing. The television is located in the living room along with a DVD player and dozens of DVDs for your use. The kitchen is equipped with major appliances, dish washer, plenty of storage along with small appliances (microwave, blender, drip coffee maker, espresso pot, toaster). Dishes, glassware, barware and utensils are provided along with place mats, napkins and dish towels. A washer and dryer (free use) are located in the laundry room adjacent to the kitchen and there is a stereo system in the kitchen island cabinet. French doors open from the kitchen onto a roomy deck overlooking the water falls and yard. On the deck you will find a gas grill, with available grilling utensils, with a dining table for 8 along with benches and chairs to further enjoy nature. Next to the kitchen you will find a spacious dining room with a table that can accommodate 8 (extension to 10), an antique armoire filled to plates and glasses, and a dresser containing table clothes of various sizes and colors. Down the hallway you will find the library with filled bookcases, chairs, a couch, children and family games, and chess table. And for the piano players, adjacent to the library, will you will find a sitting room with a Mason & Hamlin piano for your use. There is a half bath on the first floor. There are 4 bedrooms on the second floor. One bedroom has queen size bed and adjacent walk-in closet with a floor mirror and wood hangers. The second bedroom has a queen bed night stand and dresser, third bedroom has a full/double bed and dresser, and the fourth bedroom with a twin bed and skylight. All mattresses are new and the 4 bedrooms allow comfortable accommodations for up to 7. Three of the 4 bedrooms look upon the creek, waterfalls and the remaining foundation of an 1830 grist mill. The upstairs bathroom has a walk-in shower, claw foot tub, two sinks and is newly renovated. Towels, hair dryer and bar soaps are provided. If you are looking for a scenic area with rolling hills, lush fields and open vistas, the Reid House is a perfect setting. There is internet access (fiber optic) but the Reid House provides a perfect escape from work, technology and people! The location is beautiful, quiet and restores the soul! It is a perfect place for small family gatherings and get-away weekends or a retreat in a country setting. Nature greets you at every window! The Reid House is perfectly located to enjoy the beauty of progressive farms (nearby Battenkill Creamery, Gardenworks Farm and local J.S. Taylor Brewery), antique shops, biking & hiking as well as access to local lakes and river. Less than an hour from the Reid House, there are renown art museums (The Hyde in Glens Falls, NY, The Clark Museum in Williamstown, MA, The Bennington Museum in Bennington, VT). Historic Lake George, and pristine Adirondack Mountains are 45 minutes away, offer exciting boating, swimming, hiking and summer fun. Saratoga Springs is 45 minutes away and offers history, ballet, performing arts, horse racing and many restaurants. And, Manchester, Vermont, also 45 minutes away, is where you can enjoy some of the best skiing in the northeast, the Manchester horse show and excellent restaurants. You may explore the nearby quaint villages of Salem and stop at On A Limb Bakery (less than 7 miles away), Cambridge and Greenwich with their special shops, summer theater & restaurants. As hosts, we promise to have the Reid House clean & sparkling with beds made and fresh towels out. We will be available to answer questions and share ideas about local events and farm activities which might be of interest. We share the Reid House so that guests may enjoy the beauty of our agricultural valley as well as the fresh air and star-filled nights. This 4-bedroom house provides accommodation including parking, child friendly spaces, bedroom air conditioners, and internet for your convenience. The Reid House features many amenities for guests who want to stay for a few days, a weekend or probably a longer vacation with family, friends or group.
