Description

Glorious, grandeur, grounds... Pylewell Park House is glorious! This aristocratic stately home is well known locally for it's particular style of creative fun. Come here for a heady combination of glamour and eccentric British life. The space Pylewell is steeped in history, and there are many stories that can be told about it’s life and development through the ages. Staying here is to go back in time… the 1940’s, the 1920’s and the late 18th century are alive and well! Make sure you bring your black tie, smoking jackets and wigs… this isn’t a place to hang back… There are 10 bedrooms in total (8 with en-suites), each absolutely bursting with character! All of the bedrooms along the front of the house have wonderful views stretching over The Solent and the Isle of Wight and, in true keeping with the rest of the house, many are on a grand scale! When you have finished draping yourself over the chaises, do explore the homes vast living and dining areas (get the cameras ready!), or pack something delicious and venture out to see how the land lies… The house has 27 acres of gardens and a further 15 acres around the ornamental lake and arboretum (famous for the collection of Australian and Asian trees). In the late 1800’s the owners added a Japanese lake with ornamental bridges, islands, bamboo and starting what is now an extensive and important collection of Magnolia trees. A collection of rhododendrons was established and, now as the garden has reached its maturity, walking around the gardens is a sensory treat. From March to end Sept, it’s particularly special. ** This property is available for rent with New Forest Escapes, who are a small local holiday cottage agency. Do contact us directly for best rates and availability a year in advance ** INSIDE It's big. Very big. Expect huge ancestral oil paintings, parquet floors, gold leaf decoration, beautiful sculptures, bold wall papers and everything is big. The sitting room that we have photographs of here is a small study, to seat 6. The main sitting room is huge, it can seat 40...! You are welcome to use it. Unlike many stately homes, the kitchen is useable and not just set up for caterers. It's not the most beautiful room in the house, but it's certainly functional and has a 3 door AGA, a normal oven, fridge, freezer and plenty of space to prepare food. It's not a stainless-steel-everywhere commercial set up. There is a kitchen table in the kitchen to seat 8, and in the dining room there is a long table for seating up to 40. This will be set up as tables for smaller groups when you come. You are welcome to choose the bedrooms that you wish to use. Most guests choose the honeymoon suite, and there are 9 other fabulous bedrooms to choose from. each with its own bathroom. Staff - You will be met and shown around the house on arrival. During the weekdays the office will be manned but you won't be disturbed since they have their own entrance. There are staff on the estate who can help in an emergency. House keeping support - you may prefer to have a housekeeper each day to help you.  There are some excellent local private caterers who can cook 'at home' for you or deliver for you. Please ask one of our team if you'd like more info on them. OUTSIDE Guests are encouraged to wander around the estate with 27 acres of gardens and a further 15 acres of arboretum. We love the forests of pink, peachy and yellow Magnolia's that flower in Spring and some in Autumn. The lake walk has got to be one of the most secret and romantic walks to be experienced in Hampshire. HOMETRUTHS - Heating - this is an important feature for a big house! There is functional and well used central heating system here. The house will be heated for you. We also set and light the main fires in the house for your arrival, you will need to keep them topped up with logs (provided free) through the day/evening. - The garden balustrades are deteriorating in some places. If you are wandering about the garden, please be aware of the stonework structures - Please do not climb the trees, they are precious and many are important specimens. - No smoking inside please, but outside is fine. - No fireworks here, we are in the National Park and have to comply to their best-practice please. - Dogs are welcome but need to live in a cage in the kitchen and are not allowed on carpeted areas (the kitchen and hallways downstairs are fine). - There is no jetty here so you can't come by boat... helicopter is fine - plenty of landing space - The Penthouse is available for rental alongside the main house, but when booking the main house only - please be aware that there may be guests (with their own access) within the grounds if stays coincide. ACCESSIBILITY All of the bedrooms are located upstairs, and there is no lift, so please be aware that guests will have to use the staircase (there is a handrail) to access bedrooms. SLEEPING... 1.
