Our Salon features the latest in the arts: sculpture, painting, poetry, readings. Nothing has been overlooked. The house was originally built in the 1820s and had later additions in the 1850s, 1910s and 1980s. The house has been completely renovated, inside and out, top to bottom, and furnished with casual comfort in mind. We feature a sumptuous continental breakfast and coffee and tea is always available, as are light snacks and bottled waters in our guest fridge. The guest fridge also offers a storage drawer for each room. You'll also find ice, ice buckets and wine glasses. In addition to your room and private bath you'll be welcome in our lounge with a seasonal wood-burning fireplace, the great room and outdoor areas including the front porch, the lawns and the expansive pool area. We let the guests lead the level of privacy they prefer. We're always available within reason for our guests and if you don't see us around just text. The town is known for its beautiful scenery, its historic sites, and its many vineyards. Southold is also home to a number of charming shops and restaurants. We're located in the heart of New York's wine country. The neighborhood is a quiet, residential area with a mix of single-family homes interspersed with farms and bucolic wineries and vineyards (there's one across the street) and farms. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation destination, Southold is the perfect place for you. The town is located just a short drive from New York City, but it feels worlds away. You can spend your days exploring the town's many historic sites, visiting its vineyards, or simply relaxing on one of its many beaches. Our private beach is located just a mile away, and you can visit with one of our passes. The nearest grocery store is the Southold General Store, which is about 1 mile away and curated by the world famous François Payard. There are also many restaurants in the area, including the Southold Fish Market and the Southold Hotel. The Greenport North Ferry is super close, and you can take it to explore Shelter Island and then it's a short ride via the South Ferry to Sag Harbor, our gateway to the Hamptons Here are some of the things you can do in Southold: Visit the Old Southold Burial Ground, a historic cemetery that dates back to the 1600s. Take a walk or bike ride on the Peconic Bay Trail, a 30-mile trail that runs along the Peconic Bay. Go wine tasting at one of the many vineyards in the area, such as Le Crouteaux, a family-owned inyard that only makes a young rose, both still and sparking. Visit the Southold General Store, a historic general store that has been in business since 1840. Enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants in Southold, such as The Old Homestead or The Inn at Southold Farm. Visit charming old whaling town, Greenport, super close to the east. BEACHES TO VISIT WITH OUR BEACH PASSES Goose Creek, Southold Goldsmith Inlet, Peconic Gull Pond, Greenport Kenney’s Beach, Southold McCabe’s Beach, Southold New Suffolk Beach, Southold Town Beach, Southold A separate pass is needed for certain beaches that fall within the park districts of Mattituck, Cutchogue-New Suffolk, Southold or Orient-East Marion. These are typically available only to tax-paying residents of the park district but in the summer you can visit these beaches if they are charging for parking, usually $10. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation destination, Southold is the perfect place for you. Just be sure to bring your car! We highly recommend this!! Here are some of the ways you can get around Southold: Car: Southold is a car-dependent community. There is no public transportation in the town, and the nearest airport is over an hour away. If you are planning to visit Southold, you will need to rent a car. Bicycle: Southold is a great place to bike. There are a number of bike paths in the town, and the terrain is mostly flat. If you are looking for a way to get around town, biking is a great option. Remember: if you use our bikes they need to be returned by dark. Walking: Southold is a very walkable town. The majority of the town's attractions are located within walking distance of each other. If you are looking for a way to get around town, walking is a great option. Taxi: There are a number of taxi companies in Southold. If you need a taxi, you can call one of the local companies or flag one down on the street. Uber: Uber is also available in Southold. If you prefer to use Uber, you can download the app and request a ride. All the outdoor water amenities are available seasonally, from May to October.
