The architectural beauty of the house exemplifies the classic American Four Square style, featuring three bays wide and constructed from durable granite. The patterned slate, hipped roof, partial jerkinhead cross gable, and fracked cornice enhance its elegance. Inside, the house is adorned with magnificent chestnut moldings and trim, adding a touch of timeless allure to your surroundings. We want to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible, and while our heating, air conditioning and Wi-Fi are very good, it's essential to note that being an older house, it may not match the caliber of a newly constructed building. Additionally, there are stairs that you'll need to navigate, especially if you have luggage. However, we believe the historic charm and unique ambiance of Kennett House more than make up for any minor inconveniences. Kennett Square is a charming borough with a welcoming feel nestled in the rolling hills of Chester County's countryside. It is known as the Mushroom Capital of the World because mushroom farming in the region produces over a million pounds of mushrooms a day. The area to become known as Kennett Square was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native American tribe. Once colonized, the town was named Kennet Square, a reference to Kennett, Cambridgeshire in England with "Square" coming from the original land grant from William Penn, which included one square mile. Conveniently, there is free street parking available on N. Garfield, right in front of Kennett House. We highly recommend this parking option for all our guests. While there is a parking garage and metered parking in the center of Kennett Square, we suggest taking a leisurely stroll into town since we are within walking distance. Uber is accessible, although availability may vary based on the time of day. Please note that public transport is not accessible from our location. The nearest Amtrak station is in Wilmington, DE, approximately a 20-minute drive away. We extend a heartfelt welcome to Kennett House, a place that you may have known as a bed & breakfast in the past. For over 16 years, this charming establishment was lovingly owned and operated by my mother, Gilja Kusano. She poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and inviting experience for all who crossed the threshold. Sadly, after a brave and courageous battle against colon cancer, she passed away in May of 2023. In light of this profound loss, we have made the decision to transition from the traditional bed & breakfast model to an Airbnb. However, please rest assured that our commitment to providing a warm and welcoming experience to guests remains unwavering. We want to share the charm and tranquility of Kennett House with visitors like you, and you can find us on Airbnb using the same name. While I cannot replicate my mother's extraordinary presence or offer the breakfast service as before, I am wholeheartedly dedicated to honoring her legacy by keeping the doors of Kennett House open to guests in a way that I can manage.
