Located in the heart of Stoughton's Downtown Historic District, "Bees on Main" is a lovingly renovated upstairs apartment. You'll find the Opera House, Chorus, and Stoughton's wonderful shops, restaurants, pubs, and galleries only steps away. The Yahara River and Fairgrounds are within a few blocks, and there's space on the private deck to safely store your bikes or kayaks if you want to enjoy the great outdoor activities and nature surrounding Stoughton. We call our building "Bees on Main" because it reflects our commitment to sustaining honeybees through BroodMinder, our business on the main floor, where we manufacture and sell wireless electronic beehive monitors around the world. Built in 1858, Bees on Main is one of the oldest buildings in Stoughton and retains its vintage charm. So, while the floors are mostly level, some of the ceilings are not. The walls are thick with generations of plaster and drywall, so they're well insulated, but, hey, this is Main Street, so expect to hear some trucks and occasional sirens. The best news is that the wiring, plumbing, and pretty much everything you see, is new. This is one of the last remaining all-wooden buildings remaining from the original days of Stoughton, which is why there is absolutely no smoking of any kind, nor open flames of any kind permitted on the premises. We can welcome up to four guests with a king size bed in the bedroom and queen size Murphy bed in the living room. (The Murphy bed is a great place for children to sleep, but they must never be permitted to raise raise or lower it themselves, nor use it as a trampoline.) The generous dining area and kitchen are down the hall from the living room and bedroom, so there's room to spread out a bit, and you won't wake everybody up if you want to make some coffee and chill out on the deck. The dining table is large enough to leave your laptop out (or puzzles or games) and still sit down to enjoy the meals you cook in the fully furnished kitchen. (We hope you like the honeybees on the dinnerware!) We're new at this, so I hope you will help us out by sharing your suggestions on the white board on the fridge, and, oh yeah, give us those five star reviews! Thank you for choosing Bees on Main! You'll access the apartment from Main Street via a private stairway leading up from the sidewalk. The whole apartment will be just for you. We'll be available to respond when you text or call us with questions or concerns, and leave other interactions up to you. We might see each other in passing, as our business, BroodMinder, is downstairs from the apartment. Free to stop in to say hello. All parking is free in Stoughton, although there are some time limits during business hours: two hours on Main Street and the nearest blocks; three hours hours in some parking lots. There are free parking lots within one to three blocks of Bees on Main, and plenty of street parking on the streets beyond Main Street. The sidewalks are wide and welcoming for getting to the many awesome downtown places by foot. There is a taxi business if you need one: Stoughton Cab: available 8:00 am-4:30 pm. This building, one of the oldest in Stoughton, is on the Local and National Registers of Landmark Buildings. It was built in 1858 for a Lawyer named Frank Allen. In 2021, we did an historic preservation of the original outside wall of the building, found under generations of siding of various types: slate, asbestos, vinyl. Some boards were replaced, but look for the heads of the hand-made square-headed nails holding the 165-year-old siding boards fast. The entire interior was gutted and renovated in 2022-3, with all new…well, everything.
