The Lookout Blue Mahoe - Paradise on the Edge

The Lookout is perched high above the sea and surrounded by natural forests. Containing only two very private apartments, the “Blue Mahoe”and the “African Tulip”, it is perfect for romantic couples and nature-connected travelers who want to enjoy a comfortable open-plan living experience, fantastic views and a pool with a minimal carbon footprint. The building is powered by solar energy and harvests its own rainwater. All furniture has been made from local wood and hand-crafted on site. The space The Lookout's "Blue Mahoe" apartment has been named so after the beautiful wood which was used to design the kitchen-tops. The Blue Mahoe is one of two apartments in The Lookout, an absolutely unique building located on the forested edge of a cliff 90 meters above sea level near Marigot Bay. With exception of the roof and certain parts of the support structure, the Lookout has been built using volcanic stones found on and around the property. Salvaged materials were used whenever possible, including driftwood for railings and pallet wood or locally sourced hardwood for doors and furniture. The building produces its own electricity and feeds any excess into the local grid. During the wet season, rainwater is collected, stored under the building and then filtered when used during the dry months. As such, the building is as Eco-friendly as we could possibly make it. And its unique, with an open design which results in a memorable living experience in a home which is protected but in harmony with the surrounding natural environment. At the same time, the living experience in the Blue Mahoe is luxurious and relaxing, not only due to the available open space with its fantastic views, but also due to the optical appeal, very comfortable furniture, well equipped kitchen and dining areas, an excellent Bluetooth music system, strong WiFi6, and USB charging ports wherever you could need them. Two sides of the Blue Mahoe are completely open and give you amazing views, be it day or night, out to the sea and towards the island's neighbors Martinique and Dominica. The opposite weather-facing wall of the building is constructed from natural stone found on the property. Lifting doors protect the inner part of the apartment and are only lowered should a storm approach, which is about twice a year. The Blue Mahoe makes extensive use of salvaged or recycled materials. The generous kitchen is hand crafted from pallet wood salvaged from the local markets, as are the two sofas and easy chairs. The tables and office desk are made from solid local mahogany wood, sustainably procured and hand crafted. The railings are made from driftwood collected from the beaches - as is the bed which has four huge driftwood trees as pillars. The door frames are made from salvaged driftwood which gives each its own unique shape and custom made doors. The kitchen area offers all amenities expected by the self-catering traveler, including a dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven. Plus a large fridge-freezer, sufficient storage space for goods, coffee maker, toaster and Espresso machine. The dining area (with ceiling fan) is equipped for two and offers space for additional guests. Two sofas and easy chairs allow you to rest and enjoy life, and a movable fan is available to cool you down should the natural breeze not be sufficient (particularly during the summer months June - September). The private bathroom with a large hot shower area is partly open to the elements and looks out into the surrounding forests. We also installed a visually private office/work environment with a solid mahogany desk and ergonomic chair, and a background which is suitable for Zoom-meetings. Good Wi-Fi 6 is available throughout the property, as are USB charging points, which also makes the Lookout Blue Mahoe the perfect place for a working holiday. And should you ever tire of the natural sounds of waves, frogs and birds, you can connect to the excellent Bluetooth music system. Outside, the garden includes a large shared pool with a waterfall feature (made from local river stones), a BBQ and outside dining area, and stepped flower beds with a mixture of plants, herbs and vegetables which our guests are free to harvest. At the top of the property, a staircase leads up to the roof of the Lookout. From here, you have a 270' unobstructed view of the coast, the sea, and - at night - the stars above. For your personal well-being, our friend Jacky offers in-house cooking and excellent therapeutic massage services on your balcony. You must be able to climb steep steps without problems and be prepared to live exposed to open air - there are no windows to close. Guest access The building consists of three apartments, all built in the same open nature-connected style. The Blue Mahoe is the top floor, the apartment “African Tulip” on the lowest floor will come on the market in May 2025. The empty apartment between the two rental units acts as a sound barrier to ensure maximum privacy for our guests. However, due to the open living experience, you may hear your neighbours, or they may hear you.
