No-frills cosy base for Lakeland and the Solway
No-frills cosy base for Lakeland and the Solway
Description
NB: LINEN, TOWELS & TOILETRIES NOT PROVIDED! Snug little mid-terrace property in a tiny village on Hadrian's Wall on the English side of the Solway Firth. Rather shabby but full of character & very cosy. Port Carlisle has a faded splendour - built on the site of a fishing village, for a brief time it was a major port serving Carlisle, with its own canal & later a railway; in the 1850s the Firth silted up so ships could no longer get in. Birdwatchers, walkers, fans of history, dogs will love it! The space The house is in a state of slow renovation as time and funds allow and is showing its age. It is undeniably run-down, shabby and in a very poor state of decor. You will, however, find it comfortable, warm and dry. This is a remote let and we rely on our guests to make it work. We cannot provide a laundry service so we ask you to bring your own bedlinen and towels. We cannot guarantee there will be toiletries or loo rolls for you to use either. We cannot provide a cleaning service so we ask you to clean before you leave for the next guest and leave the place as you would wish to find it. We will give you a review once the next guests arrive and confirm that all is clean, tidy and prepared for them (or not!). Downstairs: Large sitting/dining room with extendable dining table, dining chairs, sofabed & easy chair. Galley kitchen with full cooking & dishwashing facilities, plus a washing machine. Solid fuel stove heats the space and provides hot water and heating upstairs. Upstairs: Bedroom 1 has double bed, chest of drawers and airing cupboard with hanging space. Bedroom 2 has double bed, bureau but no shelving or hanging space for clothes. Both rooms have a view across an extensive garden opposite which does not belong to the house. The silhouettes of the northern fells of the Lake District (notably Blencathra & Skiddaw) can be seen from both bedrooms on clear days. Bathroom has loo, sink, bath and electric shower. All upstairs rooms are heated by radiators fed by the stove downstairs. The loft above Bedroom 1 is private. Guest access The entire house is yours to use except the loft. The gardens opposite do not belong to the property and there is currently no right of access to these. Other things to note This is a self-clean and bring-your-own-linen, towels & toiletries letting. The house is not serviced between guests and we rely on each of you to leave the place tidy and clean for the next guests. Cleaning materials, vacuum cleaner, washing machine etc are provided. There is no tumble dryer, but a large "Sheila Maid" drying rack hangs in front of the stove in the living room.
