Description

Escape to our tranquil two bedroomed retreat, hidden away in this beautifully restored Grade II listed old rope mill. Boasting marvellous riverside views nearby, Millnook Cottage is an ideal base for walkers wishing to explore the stunning Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty & breathtaking Yorkshire Dales countryside. A true haven for walking, you’ll discover a wealth of relaxing riverside walks or exciting scenic trails that unfold straight from the comfort of your door. The space Need to know: Sleeps 2 - 4 people (over 3 floors) 2 bedrooms: 1 super-king-size (zip n link) or 2 singles 1 king size 2 bathrooms: 1 shower room and WC 1 en-suite shower room and WC Bijou style open-plan living, dining and kitchen area Kitchen - Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, and dishwasher Smart TV in lounge and top-floor bedroom Allocated parking for 1 car (further free on street car parking available within the village) Shops and pubs 1.5 miles Description: Far from the hustle and bustle of modern day living, the peaceful countryside and picture-postcard villages (with quaint little shops, cosy cafes and traditional pubs) await your discovery as you experience all the charms of rural life. Nestled in the heart of the Nidderdale Valley, the property is part of this magnificent 19th century former twine mill which is said to have made and supplied rope used on the ill-fated famous ‘Titanic’!. With the help of my partner (who was the main carpenter on site for several years) the historic buildings have been sympathetically transformed into a truly delightful mill conversion; all done with timeless love and detail to compliment the grandeur of this unique building, crowned by the iconic clock tower. Perfectly positioned on the idyllic banks of the River Nidd, pausing as you cross the central courtyard beneath the imposing original clocktower will reward you with the calming sounds of running water cascading past teamed with birdsong from the surrounding trees. Set in the horseshoe part of the old mill, spread over three floors and sleeps up to four guests; it really is a characterful little cottage conserving as much of the original features as possible, with the exposed beams marrying the different periods through style, texture and colour. In the resplendent nook of our charming cottage you will find a bijou style open-plan living, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor, with everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Relax on the sofa where you can rest your weary limbs after your adventures of the day exploring the dales; sinking into the voluminous cushions to watch the smart TV or simply sit back, appreciate the ambiance and read a book. The stylishly fitted compact kitchen area features built-in high quality appliances - an electric oven & hob, fridge/freezer, slimline dishwasher, microwave and has space for your culinary creations. The first floor reveals the first of two delightful bedrooms - a marvellous retreat that features simple yet sophisticated decor and a deliciously comfortable king size bed dressed in crisp white linen, scatter cushions and a cosy throw. The elegant bathroom with a rainfall shower & WC is directly adjacent. The piece de resistance is the top floor main bedroom with its vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, a fabulously comfortable Super-king bed (or can be made up as 2 single beds on request), has the added bonus of its own smart TV and luxurious en-suite bathroom, complete with a wonderful rainfall shower. Enclosed within the original courtyard building, dating back to the 1800s, you can still feel the history within. Crowned by the landmark clock tower; one of the oldest surviving parts forming the heart of Glasshouses Mill; my partner Peter has recently restored the clock to its former working glory. It really does retain the charm and character of this magnificent structure it once was. You’ll have oodles of beautiful scenic walks to choose from, leading straight from the comfort of your door. Not to mention several tempting pubs around the dale offering hearty lunches (crafted using the finest local produce from nearby market towns and sleepy villages) and refreshing tall glasses of local ale. Enjoy the peaceful setting within the pretty Nidd village of Glasshouses, Millnook Cottage is full of tranquil charm offering a memorable getaway in wonderful surroundings. Seamlessly blending the best of contemporary living and array of beautiful original features in-keeping with this historic building that was once a thriving flax mill. A perfect vantage point for seeking an unique stay in simply marvellous surroundings and an idyllic base for exploring the exceptional countryside in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The peace of this beautiful area has kept many a visitor returning year after year to enjoy the serenity. With the majestic panoramic views of the rolling hills of Nidderdale, you won't be short of things to see and do - no matter what the season! Guest access You have access to the entire property with your own private entrance and key during your stay to come and go as you please. There is one allocated parking space within the mill development and free on-street parking in the village. Whilst there is no garden at the property you are more than welcome to take advantage of the communal seating area by the riverside where you can relax, enjoy the scenic surroundings and listen to the calming sounds of the river cascading past; a soothing backdrop in both sight and sound. This seating area is located at the other-side of the clock tower and can be accessed by walking down the outside of the main mill building. Other things to note A welcome feature is that the top floor bedroom can be prepared for guests as a Superking (zip n link) bed or 2 single beds. Shops and pubs - 1.5 miles away. The nearest EV charging facility is Southlands Carpark, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate HG3 5BD Millnook is a great location within the North Yorkshire countryside between Harrogate and Ripon just 1/2 hr from the A1. With an ideal quiet habitat for its abundance of natural wildlife such as birds and otters, it’s perfect for short leisure walks. The very gentle, peaceful and picturesque riverside walk continues to the charming little market town of Pateley Bridge (just over a mile walk and almost completely flat). Renowned for it's natural beauty with its surrounding rolling hills, lush green trees and reservoirs, Nidderdale also offers you plenty of spectacular natural sights within easy driving distance, such as the breathtaking Brimham Rocks - with its panoramic views across the rural landscape . Aswell as the fabulous Fountains Abbey with its awe-inspiring Studley Water Garden and Seven Bridges Valley walk (both National Trust). The peace of this beautiful area has kept many a visitor returning year after year to enjoy the serenity. With the majestic views of the rolling hills of Nidderdale and the surrounding countryside you won't be short of things to see and do - no matter what the season! Discover Darrowby - the enchanting film locations of the new TV series of ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ is filmed all around Nidderdale; the nearby village of Grassington is the home of the fictional market town of Darrowby - and is the beating heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park! And the spa town of Harrogate with a reputation for taste & sophistication, Cathedral City of Ripon and the picturesque waterside views that nearby Knaresborough offers, are all well worth a visit. If you wish to explore a little further afield the beautiful city of York is a hour’s drive away with it’s magnificent Minster and ancient city walls that you can walk around. The fascinating architecture of ‘The Shambles’ is definitely a must see too - a historic street in York, featuring preserved medieval buildings, some dating back as far as the 14th century. The street is narrow, with many timber-framed buildings with jettied floors that overhang the street by several feet.
