Traditional charm on Molasses Pond
Camp Chickadeedee sits within a quiet cove on the shore of Molasses Pond in Eastbrook Maine. Just 30 minutes to Mount Desert Island with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park not much farther, the cottage offers the relaxation of a mountain pond and the ocean, seafood and hamlets of MDI within easy reach. This traditional Maine camp retains the rustic charm of yesterday with just enough modern comfort to complement the experience. This is a place to relax, recreate and recharge. Welcome to Camp! The space Located on 3 acres of forested land accessed by a 400 ft winding driveway, Camp Chickadeedee sits just feet from the clear water of Molasses Pond. The cottage itself is a cozy 800 sq ft traditional Maine Lake camp with lake drawn water for showers and sinks (your hair will never be shinier) and a water cooler for drinking. The ceilings are 7 feet in most rooms so might feel a little close for very tall people (owner is 6’1” and fits fine). The porch has a cathedral ceiling with ceiling fan/ light fixture and fixed glass windows facing the pond. Master bedroom is cozy with a queen bed, the guest bedroom, equally as cozy, has two twin beds. Galley kitchen with all the essentials and dining table. The bathroom has a stall shower approximately 32 by 32 inches square so may not be comfortable for larger people but as stated earlier the owner is 6’1” 200lbs and fits fine. Guest access Guests have full use of the property other than the boat house (blue cottage) and rear shed. These are private spaces used by the owners and are not accessible. The owners will not access those spaces while the property is occupied by tenants. There are two kayaks, paddles and life vests for use by the renters. Please return vests to yellow lid storage container and pull kayaks and paddles up into the space at the rear of the boat house and turn upside down. There is also a fire pit for your use but please check if there is a burn ban in effect and keep fires small (no bonfires please). Burn warnings will be on the sign of the Eastbrook Fire Department. Loon island is off limits to people and is a nesting area for loons and home to a family of otters. Please enjoy from the lakeside deck and dock or by water using the kayaks. Please no fireworks. Other things to note The lakefront is rocky and pond access is by way of a ladder from the dock. There is no beach so may be difficult for older people or small children. Please keep this in mind before booking. This is a cottage in the woods. It is thoroughly cleaned at the start of each season and after each rental by professional cleaners. Every effort is made to make it comfortable and safe for renters. There are however a few creatures that sometimes make it inside despite our best efforts to keep them out, namely an ant, a spider or a mouse. In summertime mice are rarely an issue but it’s not impossible that you may encounter evidence of one. Carpenter ants are everywhere in the woods and you may see them from time to time. There are ant baits discretely placed through out the cottage but please be aware of this if you have curious pets or very small children. If the possibility of these encounters makes you uncomfortable this may not be the rental for you. We would love to have you as guests but please don’t put us in the position of being unable to correct problems that are out of our control. Thank you in advance.
