Description

Chisels & Ginger is 22 acres with a 2.5 bedroom house on it that we are slowly remodeling. It's got gorgeous lake views and sunsets, fire pits, great hiking trails, lake access and a lot of eclectic style. Three tiers of landscaped wildflowers and perennials make it easy for guests to find their own little niche's to relax in. When the weather is nice we are rarely inside as the land calls to us and will call to you too. The space The space has two enclosed bedrooms—one is the camp room, where you will be, which has two bunk beds and a couch/sleeper mattress so that three people can sleep comfortably. It's a good place to play cards, do yoga or just hang out. The second enclosed bedroom has a double bed and a small bathroom—there may or may not be a guest there. Both bedrooms have nice carpets, a dresser and other amenities. We like to decorate with books, art and wood so all the rooms have their own charm and style. We have an interior design sector of our business in Brooklyn so we care deeply about style and that is noticeable when you walk into the space. It is unique and eclectic. The larger bathroom that you will be sharing has a sink and a bathtub/shower. One other thing to note about the interior of the house is that as of now the flooring is plywood we painted white and filled with beautiful carpets. We will be adding oak boards in August once our wood dries but until then the floors are rustic and super summery. There is a large pine dining table for eating indoors although unless it is raining eating outdoors is the way to go. As of July 1st we will have an outdoor cob kitchen and there are lots of outdoor tables and chairs so that you can pick your aesthetic —whether you want to be under the grape arbor or on the porch is up to you. There is also a fire pit and the sunset over the lake is absolutely stunning - you are never left without a view. We sleep inside and on rainy days it is a great space for cards and reading but when it's nice you will see that you are hardly inside. The structure itself is a long single wide with porches—looks kind of like a container. We don't love the look of the outer structure as of now but we will be residing with pine wood this summer so depending on your stay you might have a wooden cabin but that probably won't be until August or September. There are so many tall wildflowers surrounding the house in summer it's hard to be bothered by the look as it is beautiful in its own right but if you are picky about those outer layers and don't like the idea of a single wide type structure this might not be the space for you. There are flowers everywhere so it is great for people who like gardening or want to learn about the different types of flora and fauna. Guest access In the morning, before breakfast, and in the night, after dinner, you will have access through the side door to your room and bathrooms. We ask that guests wait to use the kitchen to cook until 9am but you will have a place to make coffee or tea and some fruit stations prior to nine. We also close access to the indoor dining room and kitchen at 9:00 although on rainy nights it is usually open later. During your stay We care deeply about community and so we uplift compassionate and inspiring conversation. This does not mean you have to be engaging with folks all the time but if you want to engage there is a community of people who love learning about others and enjoy sharing stories and ideas. The property offers both privacy and community depending on what you seek. Other things to note Important things to note. 1. This is a wild space and we consider it an animal and plant oasis. We do not allow hunting on our property. You will see animals. If you are afraid or against bunny rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, frogs, garter snakes (rarely seen but every now and then once might bask in the sun by the rock garden)—if any of this type of stuff scares you or you hate the woods and the bugs this might not be your spot. 2. Getting too and from the lake requires about a ten minute walk to the bottom of the property and across the street which means on your way back you will be hiking up the property. Driving is not permitted unless you are with us. 3. You are welcome to visit and hike our conservation property which is an eight minute drive away on the other side of panther mountain. It is in the gorgeous hamlet of Fly Creek and it is also a beautiful walk from our property to that property. We map that out for you in the welcome manual. 4. There is a great hike behind our property and there is a trailhead on the neighbors property that makes it easier to reach the trails. If you let us know that you would like to hike ahead of time we can make sure they know who you are and when you may be coming. Ultimately – Chisels and Ginger is a peaceful nature oasis created by two passionate artists and it is an ongoing project that will morph in and out of different versions of itself. We have worked with community to build this space and so we hope you enjoy it and want you to know that just by being there you are a part of a larger creative project and we are grateful for your presence.
