The Library of Le Trait d'Union

The Library is a studio in Le Trait d'Union, a 200-year-old home and historic gathering space for artists, writers and philosophers in the Fontainebleau forest, 45 miles (65 km) south of Paris, France. It offers a serene and enriched space to write and create, explore, climb, bike and more, deep in the Foret de Fontainebleau along the banks of the Seine, and yet is only a 40-minute train ride from Paris plus an 8-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk. The space The Library occupies the ground floor of Le Trait d'Union, an historic 200-year-old home on the banks of the Seine in a hamlet called Les Platreries of 15 other early 19th century homes all located on the infamous Scandiberique bike trail network linking the entirety of Europe. The Library is a wholly inclusive studio with a private entrance to the shared front garden, leading to the road and Seine river. It includes its own bathroom, cooking facilities, a full-bed, low-height loft as well as a full bed sofa and measures 24 m2/260 sq.ft. (plus sleeping loft). It also includes a full art history library in English. Note: the sleeping loft is accessed by a factory-made mezzanine ladder at a height of 2.25 meters (ceiling height 3 meters). The space from the bed itself to the ceiling is 70cm/27.5" and 55cm/22" under the beams. It is low height. Note the heating is activated on October 15, as standard in France, into spring. Guest access Guests have a private studio with its own entrance. The gate and front garden are shared with the main house. Other things to note The Library is a space for writers, artists, and outdoor enthusiasts. There is a desk and an electric piano. We are in the Fontainebleau forest with easy access to Paris (less than an hour by train). The Library offers refuge in the forest and on the waterfront offering a space for creativity and adventure, not far from the city geographically but very far psychologically.
