Warm up after in front of a cozy fire at The Cottage. Summer; Enjoy the walking paths around Whitney Point Lake just feet from our backyard. Bring your own boat to put in the water just down the hill. No boat? Within a short 2 mile walk, you can have access to Dorchester Park for swimming and boat rentals. A little History.....Our 3 Acre property was established in 1832. Once being one of the largest farms in the Southern Tier Region with over 400 Acres. After the flood of 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited the area including our location, to help determine the need of setting flood control from the 2 adjoining nearby rivers. This was when the Whitney Point Dam Project commenced and the property was divided for the development of the Whitney Point Reservoir. The Cottage is the only house left (of several) on the property that the Farm Hands were residing in back in the early days of the farm. When you arrive at our location, you will first see the barn and main farmhouse. You will access the driveway closest to the mailbox and drive to the far end of the property, just beyond the garage, to your own parking spaces in front of The Cottage. We do ask that you refrain from parking on the lawn. Please be advised that due to the unfortunate condition of the large barn, it is off limits to go inside. Please do not attempt. You will however have access to the grounds. As our guest, if you wish to have multiple family members visit you and stay the night, you are welcome to pitch a tent or two in the yard surrounding The Cottage. We do have a neighbor to the left side of the cottage and their driveway is not accessible for guest use. As our guest at The Cottage, you will receive complete privacy. We do live on the property in the main farmhouse next door, but will not bother you. We will however be available to you for questions, concerns and things you may need by text or phone call. The Cottage On the Lake consists of the peaceful sounds that nature has to offer. You will hear the birds singing, the occasional Coyotes howling and may even catch a glimpse of the neighborhood deer, bunnies or fox. We live at the end of Keibel Road which gives us front row access to The Whitney Point Reservoir practically in our backyard! Feel free to use the gas grill to do up a couple of steaks or some hamburgers and hot dogs. There is a grocery store just down the road that has a great produce section and fresh meats. If you are not in the mood to cook, there are a variety of different eateries close by that offer most everything from breakfast to dinner. You are welcome to bring your bikes, kayaks, sail boat, snowshoes or cross country skiis to get around the multiple walking paths and trails the 1200 Acre Whitney Point Reservoir has to offer. There are small islands in the middle of the lake that you can paddle to and enjoy the views for the day. The lake offers Walleye and Crappy fishing and small motor boats up to 25 horsepower. We are centrally located to reach well known destinations by car within 30 minutes to an hour. If you want to visit places like The Finger Lakes Wine Trails, Greek Peak Ski Resort and Water Park, Animal Adventure Sanctuary, Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, Watkins Glen NASCAR Speedway and Ithaca WaterFalls....you can do so and enjoy your day. There are multiple top rated schools right here in our area including; Cornell University and Ithaca College, Syracuse University, SUNY Cortland, TC3, Binghamton University and Colgate University. Are you a golfer?? We are in the heart of well known courses; Ford Hill, here in Whitney Point; Maple Hill in Marathon; Geneganslet Golf Course in Greene; and En-Joi Golf Course in Endicott - home of the Dicks Sporting Goods Open. So much to see and do!! In our main Farmhouse as you arrive, we do have 2 large friendly dogs that may or may not be outside to greet you during your stay.
