Hilltop Haven is a comfortable, well-equipped home in a Designated Dark-Sky Area, designed for rest, privacy, and time outdoors together. This home features a fantastic split layout with two bedrooms and baths and a small basketball court, tetherball (fall, spring and summer). Play at your own risk--haha!) and corn hole for outdoor fun. After hosting hundreds of guests during our 30 years as missionaries in Ecuador, we built Hilltop Haven to share our love of hospitality with travelers exploring the Buffalo River area. Every detail - from the toothbrushes we provide to the hiking trail recommendations - comes from our passion for making your stay comfortable and memorable. Sleeping & Bathrooms Bedroom 1: King bed, private bath with double sinks, tub/shower combo, walk-in closet, Roku TV Bedroom 2: Queen bed plus XL twin trundle, walk-in closet, Roku TV; bathroom next door with tub/shower combo Living Areas: Living Room: Seats 7, one reclining couch, Roku TV; one couch converts to a twin bed Kitchen: Fully stocked with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, large walk-in pantry, Berkey water filter, and plenty of small appliances (toaster, Instant Pot, crock pot, electric frying pan, and more) Laundry Room: Washer and dryer with detergent provided Internet: 25 Mbps download / 5 Mbps upload. My husband works from home on video calls while I stream, and it works well. Outdoor Space: Hot tub: Available year-round (max temp 104°). A great spot to relax after hiking and enjoy the stars. Gas grill: On the back patio; propane provided Front porch: Rocking/gliding chairs and a hammock—perfect for sunsets Back porch: Patio seating and hot tub for up to five people Games: Basketball court (two balls provided), tetherball, cornhole (on back porch), and an indoor game called Pepper Pong (played on the dining table) Pets: Dogs are welcome. Please keep pets off furniture and out of the hot tub. Stargazing: We’re in a designated dark sky area, and the stars are incredible—from the porches or even the hot tub. Nearby Activities: Buffalo River access (fishing, canoeing, kayaking): Ponca – 9.6 miles Jasper – 24.4 miles Hiking: Hemmed-in-Hollow Falls – 5.8 miles Paige Falls – 6.1 miles Hideout Hollow Trail – 6.8 miles Big Bluff & Goat Trail – 13 miles Biking: Arkansas Monument Trails (easy to find online) Supplies Provided: We stock plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher pods, garbage bags, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Each bathroom also has toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, individual deodorant wipes, and other essentials in case you forget something. Dining & Groceries: Our home is about 30 minutes from Harrison, where you’ll find Walmart, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, fast food, and sit-down restaurants. We recommend Jamie’s Local Flavor for great steaks and sandwiches, Nopalitos for Mexican food, and Neighbor’s Mill Bakery for breakfast or lunch. We suggest bringing at least your initial groceries so you don’t have to make a trip into town right away. If you’re looking for a quiet, private place with dark skies, nearby hiking and river access, and a home that’s truly stocked for real living—not just sleeping—we think you’ll feel right at home at Hilltop Haven. Guest access You have access to the entire house except for the garage and the owner's closet (the second closet in the King bedroom) . No one else stays on the property. Other things to note *Our home is located 2.5 miles from Highway 43 on a dirt road. It can be slippery after a lot of rain but dries up quickly. It is a well-graded road and maintained well. *There are insects in the country—we use a non-toxic pest service which is helpful at keeping the population down! Just know that you might find a dead bug or two during your stay. * We are on city water. We also offer a Berkey water filter (we even use one at our home in Colorado for health reasons) and five bottles of water in the fridge will be waiting for you when you arrive. *You are in full control of your heat and cooling while staying at our home. *Pretty obvious, but don't bathe your dogs in either tub or let them go into the hot tub.
