Description

Welcome! Steps from the UW, Camp Randall, Edgewood College, Vilas Zoo, the bike path system, EPIC, all 3 local hospitals, downtown, the Capitol, & the lakes. With a combined 80+ years living in Madison, we’re available to you & will do everything in our power to provide for anything you may need as our guest. We’ve raised our family in this home over the past 25 years & look forward to hosting you! We allow dogs, but I’m afraid no cats. PLEASE read the ENTIRE description before booking! The space With its own entrance and private off street parking, this approximately 600 sq ft space most closely resembles a studio apartment. The main bed is a queen sized murphy bed with a memory foam mattress while the second bed is a new queen sized sleeper sofa, also with memory foam. Additionally, we have a premium queen air mattress, pack and play and twin sized air mattress. We have a full kitchen fitted with new stainless steel appliances, a bar-height counter and stools, a newly remodeled bathroom, and laundry facilities which are shared with the rest of the house. There is a selection of toys and games for kids of various ages available by request as well as portable booster seats. We welcome you to use our laundry room which has two new speed queen washers and a Samsung dryer (with a steam refresh top), a full sized iron and ironing board, and a variety of air drying options including an exterior umbrella dryer in the yard (with plenty of pins), an English-style airer on the ceiling (with a fan), and folding drying racks. The laundry room is shared with our family and is separated from the AirBnb space by an antique exterior door with beveled glass, covered by a curtain. There is a security camera covering the stairs up to our portion of the house, that captures part of the laundry room. You can see someone is in there but not really what they’re doing. We use it to keep track of our animals and to catch our son sneaking treats. There are French pocket doors in the main room that open into our basement, but we keep these closed and they are lockable from inside the unit and covered with blackout curtains for both light and privacy reasons. The beds are not in a separate bedroom but are all in the main room. We supply multiple room separators for extra privacy. In addition to the murphy bed and the sleeper sofa we have a premium queen sized air mattress with a built-in pump, a pack and play (folding portable bed for small children), and a twin-sized air mattress, also with built in pump. The air mattresses are onsite, and we will do our best to accommodate you, however you’d like to configure it. The space is sound proofed in the ceiling and walls. We’ve been unable to hear upstairs noise when we have been in the unit, except the occasional wrestling dog or teenaged boy directly above the living room. We’ve been working with the boy, but please let us know if we’re being too noisy upstairs - the dogs aren’t as easy to work with as the boy. We can’t hear you in the unit from upstairs with the exception of loud, bass-heavy music. Bands and gigging artists are welcome. We can easily accommodate RV’s and/or buses if necessary. We ask only that practice and jam sessions stay within quiet hours. We live in close proximity to our neighbors. We would be willing to discuss commercial uses for the space such as filming or photography, but it would need to be approved in advance or would void the rental agreement. When we designed this space it was partially with the idea of hosting friends and family so we are therefore open to the possibility of small get togethers such as pre-game tailgate parties or family gatherings, on a case by case basis. We also welcome you entertaining your own guests in the space while you’re staying as long as long as you don't have large numbers of people coming and going late at night as we and our neighbors have children. Failure to adhere to these requests will risk voiding the rental agreement and may necessitate immediate eviction. Please refrain from open burning inside the unit, although vapes are fine, within reason. If we smell strong smoke upstairs we may have to rescind that permission. There is a small table and chairs outside as well as a fire pit with benches if you wish to smoke outside. We ask only you please collect your debris in the small metal can we’ve left by the garage door for that purpose. While our neighborhood itself is very quiet, we live on a major traffic route onto the Isthmus (Regent St). Between police, ambulances, buses and trucks there are sirens and traffic noises going by multiple times a day. We spend significant time in the unit when it isn’t rented, and have hardly heard them. IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING: - To get in from outside YOU WILL NEED TO MANEUVER A SHORT FLIGHT OF 7 STEPS to enter or exit from our driveway. Once inside, doorways are wide and everything is on one level. - We charge a $100 cleaning fee which goes entirely to our cleaner. If you stay more than a week, we expect to access the space at an agreed upon time for a weekly clean up. That cleanup will also be charged at $100. One to seven nights = $100 cleaning fee for up to six guests. Two weeks = $200 cleaning fee (and access to allow cleaning at agreed time). Three weeks = $300, etc. If you’re staying 8-10 days we can be flexible. WE DO NOT expect any chores out of our guests. We ASK ONLY you turn off lights and lock the door when you leave. If you fill the trash during your stay, please put the filled bags into the trash can in the driveway. There are fresh bags under the sink. - This space is in our basement and we use it as a family room/entertainment space when not rented. Our family includes pets - two dog and 3 cats, so it may not be right for someone with ALLERGIES. We have, however, been able to successfully accommodate moderate pet allergies with enough advance notice. - We allow up to two spayed or neutered dogs to stay at a time, although we would consider more than two or fully intact dogs on a case by case basis. Dogs must be crated if left alone and are not allowed to sleep on the beds. Our animals aren't allowed on the beds (or even in the space if the beds are out) either. - If you have a different type of animal you'd like to bring please make an inquiry and we will do our best to accommodate you. Unfortunately, because of our personal family felines, we have to exclude cats outright. - We do not have a whole house a/c, but have a window unit for the basement that works in conjunction with our whole house dehumidifier. There is also an air purifier in the space, although wildfire smoke in the space hasn’t been an issue to date. - In addition to the French doors, the antique front door, and the exterior door out of the space there is also a full-sized egress window. Since this window is original to the house (100 years old in 2023) it opens into an exterior space where one could easily exit in an emergency. Unfortunately it doesn't close as easily as it opens so we request it be left closed unless needed as an emergency exit. - Finally, we have not yet installed glass in the bathroom (as seen in the listing pictures) because it hasn't been an issue for us - what started as a result of covid shortages has turned into something for the to-do list. The City of Madison has been licensing and regulating Airbnbs for over a decade and we’re proud to have earned all of our required licenses and permits. Our city Temporary Rooming House permit is ZTRHP-2023-0030 and our health department license is LICHMD-2023-00743. Both permits require significant input from both parties as well as at least one site visit for each. We are new at this and apologize in advance for anything we've omitted. Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to your visit! We're working on local guide books and will publish them as soon as we're able. Welcome! Guest access Full unit is private. Exterior of the house and laundry facilities are shared. Other things to note Two Roku TV’s, WiFi, dishes, pots and pans, bakeware , many small appliances in the kitchen as well as many additional available on request. We have two am/fm clock radios with charging and extra ports as well as an air purifier, noise machine, floor fan, wall fan. We also have six foot tall room dividers for additional privacy in the main space. Finally, there are an Atari and X box game system (not the latest) that live in the unit with a selection of games, and a PlayStation 4 (or even a Wii) available on request.
