The house of the artists – Wachau

… The space The artists' house is located in the Wachau, in the center of Aggsbach Markt, right next to the Danube. The historic stone house, whose foundations date back to the Middle Ages, has been renovated, restored and modernized in detail over decades of meticulous work. This is how modern design meets the old and exquisite. Only the highest quality and ecological materials were used, both in the building materials and in the furnishings. Quality meets design classics and new interpretations. For example, a  Bulthaup kitchen workbench can be found, the substructure of which comes from the farm's own walnut tree, which the storm had once knocked over. Or Vola and Philippe Starck furnishings in the bathrooms. If you close the front door, a feeling of security and tranquility sets in, because behind the walls of the house, which are up to one meter thick, and its secluded garden in the courtyard, you can both switch off and work in a focused manner. The courtyard with its Mediterranean ambience, planted with laurel, lemon, or kumquat, wine and roses invites you to linger, eat or read. On hot days, the large walnut tree provides shade, on cool days, coffee can be taken in the adjacent pigsty, which has been converted into a glass house.  Living also means cooking in this house. There is a professional kitchen as well as a dining room with exquisite ingredients in organic quality, many of them from our own production. If it gets cold, you can cook on wood on the kitchen stove. Its tiles were specially designed and hand painted and made. Herbs can be found in the front garden. Coffee can be prepared both as a single-serve and from the capsule. High-quality tableware and cookware can be found. All kinds of cereals and basic foods can be found in the pantry. Ingredients can be obtained in Melk, Spitz or Krems, whose farmers' market on Saturday morning is a reliable source of ingredients from the region. Optionally, a breakfast basket with bread and apricot jam from our own old trees from steep slopes and all kinds of cheese from surrounding farmers can be ordered. Of course, everything is of the best organic quality. You can arrive by car and park for free at the front door. Also by bike, bus or train or yacht. If you don't just want to come for pleasure, but are looking for a place of peace and inspiration and don't want to do without a large study, you can use the large studio and meeting room by arrangement, which normally remains closed because of the works of art. A public presentation or performance would also be possible in the ground-level gallery room. The in-house lifestyle inevitably includes morning and/or evening swimming in the Danube. In three minutes walking time down the Danube you can reach the natural beach with its mighty sweep, which you can swim through upstream and is also well suited for children of all ages to splash or swim. As special roommates, the swallows should be highlighted, which have been a fixed part of the house for over 30 years (from May to September) and bring happiness with them. The upper floor is forbidden to them with curtains, but in the lower staircase they are allowed to breed and raise their offspring. In order not to disturb your night's rest, it should only be entered at night with a flashlight or in the dark. The lamps are of course part of the basic equipment. Through the street-side entrance you enter the staircase, from there you continue to the upper floor, the courtyard, the bathroom or the gallery. Upstairs, from the anteroom, there is an adjoining room with a guest sofa bed, the optional studio room, toilet & shower and the kitchen with dining room and balcony. From here you can get to the garden in the courtyard as well as to the bedroom. As a guest in the artists' house, you are in a very special ambience, a unique place to linger, which cannot be found a second time.
