Description

Stay in a 1960s, one of a kind Railway Carriage nestled within a peaceful wildlife refuge with a natural wood-fired hot tub. Our lovingly restored train carriage is located on our picturesque 270 acre family property in Oakview, just 80 minutes from Noosa & 15 minutes from Kilkivan. Enjoy stunning bush & mountain views, modern ammenities, a fire pit, private access to a creek and winding stream perfect for swimming, exploring & kayaking, and a nature walking trail spanning over 10 acres. The space The Oakview carriage is the perfect stay for those craving a relaxing escape into nature with a little touch of luxury. Located within our family property, the carriage showcases a glimpse into the past with many of its original train carriage features in-tact, whilst offering modern ammenities to ensure your comfort and convenience. Enjoy quality bed linens, cosy plush robes for after a dip in the tub, lux shower toiletries, high speed Starlink Wi-Fi, dual reverse cycle air-conditioning, 2 TVs, Netflix, a yoga mat and a natural wood-fired hot tub (or plunge pool) providing a relaxing and rustic ambience. The hot tub is located on the veranda offering magical nature views and is a truely unique experience. The water in the tub is from our nearby stream and absolutely no chemicals are used as the water is fresh and changed for each and every guest. Split fire-wood for the hot tub is included in your stay however if you would like some firewood to use in the fire pit, this can be arranged prior for an additional $25 per bag (please just send us a message). You are also welcome to collect your own firewood from the adjacent forest/bushland🌲🌿 🪵 Much thought has gone into styling our carriage so you will find a special curated collection of vintage treasures, books and special trinkets to browse throughout. The carriage is located on a wildlife refuge which is within our family property. As our guest you will have access to just over 10 acres of your own private area in front of the carriage including a walking trail down to the creek and expansive riparian zone, which you will have mostly all to yourself. Explore, swim or kayak, the choice is yours. ***Please do note that on the drive into our property you will see a few dwellings since this is our home and working property, there is a large shed and small secondary workers cottage behind the train at a decent distance away and both are well concealed behind banana trees and shrubbery. We also refurbish & repair caravans so these will often be seen only on your drive into the property, not from the carriage itself. Once you are over at the carriage it is very private and peaceful, and these dwellings are not in view. We live on the property so you may see us in the polaris or around the property in the distance only if you are out walking & exploring but we won’t disturb you and keep to ourselves to allow you privacy :) Switch off and enjoy the company of our friendly mob of female eastern grey kangaroos that often rest on the grass outside the carriage. The property is also home to many red-neck and whiptail wallabies, pademelons, echidnas, sugar gliders and a thriving bird population that includes the friendly Australian king parrots, cockatoos and the powerful owl. You may even catch a glimpse of one of our resident platypus in the creek or wild deer on your drive in. The cosy kitchen is small but equipped with everything you should need, including pots and pans, convection oven with two-burner stove top, SMEG bar fridge, toaster, kettle, an outdoor dometic fridge/freezer and outdoor Weber BBQ. Our wee pantry is stocked with essential items such as salt, pepper, herbs, spices, cooking oil, tea & coffee. There are also cast iron cooking pots should you wish to enjoy a camp style feast over the fire pit. The round outdoor dining table & chairs double as a comfortable and peaceful workspace for anyone needing to work remotely. Guest access The entire train carriage accomodation is all yours, as well as the grassy area in front of the train and the private nature walk that leads to the creek and riparian zone within the property. The accomodation is situated on our 270 acre family property where you will have just over 10 acres of mostly private area to roam freely. A detailed map of this area is displayed in the carriage for you. We are a welcoming and inclusive airbnb for guests from all backgrounds and communities, unfortunately due to the way the carriage was built, we are not wheelchair accessible and may pose challenges for individuals with mobility concerns due to the stairs leading up to the carriage and the narrow doors leading to the bedroom and bathroom. We want all of our guests to have a comfortable and safe stay, and unfortunately, we do not have the necessary accommodations to provide for those with mobility limitations. The carriage has been designed for a couples or solo retreat. Other things to note In his free time, Julian refurbishes tiny homes, caravans & demountables so you may see these structures in the distance on your drive in. Behind the carriage there is a working shed and secondary dwelling on the hill that is well concealed behind shrubs, trees, and an ever-growing garden. The carriage and its front yard and veranda are very private and the way it is positioned (facing into the forest) we cannot see the front veranda that looks out to the view, and is private to our homes on the property. As we are fairly secluded you will need to stock up on food before you come as there are limited dining/takeaway options nearby. Please check out our guide book for the nearest food options. Accessing the accommodation involves approximately 4km of dirt road (is well maintained) and there is a causeway that on occasion may have a small amount of water flowing over it after periods of heavy rain. Arrangements can be made for us to pick you up from the other side where you can leave your car in this scenario. If on a rare occasion it becomes too high and deemed unsafe to cross we will happily allow you to reschedule your booking for another time or provide a full refund. Due to the potential hazards posed by the creek, wildlife, and livestock, we do not allow children and pets. Although the majority of the wildlife is harmless, it is important to note that encounters with snakes may occur. Prior to making a reservation, please take into account whether this will be a concern for you. It is recommended that guests wear boots when exploring the property. Phone reception can be hit & miss particularly outside of Telstra so ensure you have a screen shot of the directions before you make your way out. Rest assured, we have excellent Wi-Fi available in the train carriage for when you arrive! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or special requests.
