The Greater Coucal farmstay near Chennai

Set in an organic farm nestled in a sleepy village in Tamil Nadu, our accommodation is rustic & simple, the food delicious & honest and there's time to relax or much to do, depending on your inclination. Nature lovers & history buffs have loads to explore & we would be happy to give you pointers on what our surroundings have to offer. However, if all you want is to get away from the urban clutter, then enjoy a simpler life under the stars with us - we promise to leave you undisturbed! The space Standing independent of the main house, The Greater Coucal (yes, the space is named after one of the busy birds you’ll see around our farm) is our very quaint and surprisingly spacious farmstay cottage. As you enter, starting with an open verandah with a great view of the farm, you move into a more private courtyard that is ideal for work or to sit down and enjoy one of our farm-fresh meals. Your footsteps then take you into a cozy, well-ventilated living room and an open plan bedroom for a couple. The accommodation also features a clean, ensuite bathroom with running hot and cold water. Ideal for a couple, additional bedding can also be arranged on request to accommodate an extra adult or two children below the age of 14, in the living area. With period furniture dotting this space of cool terracotta floors, terracotta and whitewashed walls and reclaimed windows and doors, be prepared to be transported into old-world rusticity and the charm of a simple farm life – if you choose, you can throw the many windows open (though the space is air-conditioned) and the room stays surprisingly cool, all day long. The easterly afternoon wind bringing the sea breeze in to cool the earth. Our fields and unrestricted views of the adjacent lake and its surrounding grasslands. Spotting kingfishers, cheeky drongos, meditating herons, helicopter dragon flies, the dart of the Indian roller - one can go on and on. Activities around the farm - planting, watering, weeding, nurturing, harvesting. Other things to note Veg & non-veg set menus are available and prepared to order; this has to be placed in advance with us.
