Description
Nestled deep into Shyok Valley and hardly 20 kms away from India-Pakistan border, our homestay is the first Balti homestay of Turtuk village. We're a family of six. We live in a vintage traditional Balti house with vast space for several animals like hens, cows, goats, etc. We currently offer four rooms for guests and three shared washrooms (local & western). We prepare traditional Balti food (veg and non-veg) for our guests. We'd love to have you for a wholesome traditional Balti experience! The space Our house is a vintage three-storeyed Balti house, built traditionally with mud and stones. The ground floor is used for storage and we live on the first floor. We have a beautiful covered sit-out area and terrace on the second floor and another roof above the second floor which offers a 360 degree view of the village and valley and is perfect for stargazing. We also have two traditional handloom weaving machines on the second floor terrace where we have been preparing woollen shawls for the locals during the winters for decades. Guests stay on the first and second floor. We also have ample space behind the house for our animals like hens, cows, donkeys, goats, sheeps, etc. The house is situated in one of the quiet lanes of the village near the water mill in Youl area. Guest access In addition to their rooms, guests also have access to certain shared spaces like all shared washrooms/ toilets, terrace on the second floor and above the second floor, animal area behind the house and common washing area with a washing machine. During your stay I love interacting with guests and sharing our experiences and culture. I am accessible by call, text and email. Other things to note We're a traditional Balti family who values relationships. We would appreciate it if you consider our homestay as your home and respect the local culture. We live a very simple life in one of the harshest places in this country.
