A day in khaki - Muromachi
Description
As featured on the NYTimes T list, this property is a "Kyomachiya", a traditional Japanese home over 100 years old. It has been revamped from a "Nishijin-ori" (traditional Japanese textile) factory. It is located in the traditional Kamigyo Ward, minutes walk from the Imperial Palace. We collaborated with award winning architects at Ikken to renovate this space, which now accommodates the comforts of modern life, while retaining many of the original structure and elements from its past. The space *This West building is a stand alone building at our property at Muromachi, which consists of two separate buildings. The two buildings can be booked together to accommodate up to 10 guests. Please see our profile for listings of both buildings.* Common area: This space is renovated from the former textile factory and now serves as the living dining area. It looks out into our gardens on both sides. There is also a kitchenette which has a sink, microwave, toaster, refrigerator, water kettle, plates, and silverware. Bedrooms: There are two tatami rooms on the second floor. Here we have comissioned Mr. Wataru Hatano - a renowned Japanese paper artist - to create a unique blend of khaki color for the space. Bedroom 1 - 2 Japanese floor mattresses, overlooks our garden. Bedroom 2 - 2 Japanese floor mattresses, overlooks neighboring properties. Bathrooms: Bathroom 1 - full bath on the first floor featuring a bathtub and standing shower. Towels, hairdryer, shower gel, shampoo, personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, cotton swabs, makeup remover pads) are all provided. Bathroom 2 - half bath (no shower or bathtub) on the second floor Other things to note Free high speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the house.
