We invite you to step into the magic of The Understory Treehouse at Henderson Woods. A handcrafted cedar interior creates a cozy and rustic ambience, while large picture windows allow you to take in forest beauty from every direction. Sip your morning coffee or rest in the sun from a south-facing balcony that overlooks a small orchard. Fall asleep to the sounds of barred owls, and wake up to the trill of Swainson thrush. This beautifully crafted treehouse is the culmination of a boyhood dream to create a space that captures and celebrates the magic of the forest. Created over several years by the loving labor of a father and son, our treehouse features rough sawn fir rafters and furniture made out of cedar trees from our property. Built 17ft above the forest floor, and anchored in an old growth fir tree, this home away from home will give you a true, eagle’s nest experience. The Understory Treehouse at Henderson Woods is conveniently located just 15-25 minutes from Bellingham (depending on where you are going), Galbraith Mountain biking trails, and the waterfront. The Mt Baker ski area is just 45-60 minutes away and we are close to the many hiking trails the North Cascades have to offer. If you have your sights set on Canada, you can arrive at the border in 25 minutes. Come Inside: Every inch of this 250 sq.ft. home has been carefully planned for your comfort and relaxation. A ladder leads to a generous loft space with a queen bed. A sofa in the main living area converts to a twin bed. The kitchen is equipped with a sink, mini-fridge, single burner electric stove, toaster, electric tea kettle, french press, and basic supplies for cooking and serving. Coffee and tea will be provided and farm fresh eggs from our chickens are available on request. Please note: No guests under age 10. Once you have parked you will follow a short path through the woods, across a foot bridge to the treehouse. The trail is over uneven ground and, depending on the season, can be wet or snowy. The best way to communicate with us during your stay is to text us. Please note, our family lives on the property, and a short distance beyond the shower house is our private residence. You will hear the sounds of our kids playing outside occasionally. They will leave you alone, but we love for them to be outside! The treehouse is located on a private lane, all guests must drive 10 mph or less. Due to the nature of this treehouse, you must have full mobility and stamina to climb stairs and ladders. This rental is not suitable for those with accessibility needs. No visitors are allowed without prior approval. Your own private shower house is just a few steps away at the bottom of the stairs to the treehouse. The shower house features an on-demand hot water heater for a not-too-rustic shower experience, a sink and a custom made low-odor composting toilet. NOTE: The shower is winterized (not usable) approximately Nov-March, but the the restroom/toilet is available year around. Please message us to inquire about that if needed. Due to our location and the elevation of the treehouse, a windy day can bring the noise level up because the treehouse is designed to move with the tree. It is normal to hear small noises and feel some movement. LIABILITY WAIVER: Because this is a unique stay, we require all guests to sign a liability waiver upon booking. We'll send it to you via email for digital signing. You will not receive check-in instructions until you have signed the waiver. We reserve the right to cancel reservations due to severe seasonal storms, a full refund will be issued.
