The Understory Treehouse

We invite you to step into the magic of The Understory Treehouse. The space Perched 17 feet up in an old-growth fir tree, this hand-built treehouse was dreamed up and created by father and son. A warm cedar and fir interior creates a cozy and rustic ambience, while large picture windows allow you to take in forest beauty from every direction. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. Sip your morning coffee or rest in the sun from a south-facing balcony that overlooks a small orchard. Fall asleep to the sounds of barred owls, and wake up to the trill of Swainson thrush. LOCATION: –– 15–20 minutes from Bellingham and Galbraith Mountain biking trails –– 30–60 minutes to Mt. Baker Ski Area and many North Cascades hiking trails –– 25 minutes to the Canadian border INSIDE THE TREEHOUSE: –– 250 sq. ft. of thoughtfully designed space —Queen bed in the loft (accessible by ladder) –– Sofa that converts into a twin bed –– Electric fireplace and heat for chilly nights –– Mini kitchen: sink, mini-fridge, single burner hot plate, toaster, cooking basics –– Nespresso & tea provided SHOWER & BATHROOM: –– Private shower house just below the treehouse –– Hot water, composting toilet, and sink –– Seasonally, if nighttime temperatures get below 30ish degrees we may have to unhook the water to the shower overnight, or until it warms up! –– Toilet available year-round GOOD TO KNOW: –– The treehouse shares the property with our private home. You may hear our kids playing outside, but they will respect your space and privacy. –– Not suitable for guests under 10 –– Must be comfortable climbing stairs and ladders –– Uneven forest trail to the treehouse (it’s a couple minute walk from parking spot). It can be wet, slippery, or snowy –– No visitors without prior approval –– No candles or open flames –– Treehouse moves slightly with the wind—totally normal! BEFORE YOU STAY: –– You’ll need to sign a digital liability waiver, we’ll send it a few days before check-in –– Check-in instructions are sent after the waiver is signed –– In case of severe weather, we may cancel and fully refund your stay, but we will be in communication about that and watching the weather closely!
