Just minutes from Chimney Rock & hiking trails, we provide the ultimate "highland" experience complete with privacy, stunning views, clean mountain air, in a pristine natural setting teeming with wildlife. The space While we have a Lake Lure address, Highbush is tucked away in the serene highlands, offering a true mountain escape away from the water’s edge. LIVING: Our newly reupholstered furniture and updated decor provide a fresh, modern-cabin vibe. The open-plan living area features a massive stone fireplace, perfect for chilly mountain evenings. SLEEPING: Two comfortable (Queen) bedrooms, designed for truly restorative rest, feature high-quality linens, blackout window shades and forest views from every window. OUTDOORS: This is where Highbush shines. Enjoy the wrap-around deck, professional-grade grill, and our private fire pit area with bench seating for 8, built in electrical outlets, & wifi coverage. You are surrounded by nature, yet only a short drive to the Flowering Bridge and local dining. AMENITIES: Fully equipped kitchen High-speed Wi-Fi (Great for remote work) Dedicated workspace in the unique, cedar crafted "Dollhouse", our mini cabin by the woods (please note, the Dollhouse is fully equipped and comfortably furnished for work or play, but it does not have its own bathroom). New interior styling (2025/2026) 4 legged guests are very welcome! Guest access Located 6 miles from Lake Lure and 2 miles from Rumbling Bald, the cabin is in a gated private community, Sweetbriar Farms South. Using the pin code, you will drive through the gate, then drive about 1 mile on the well-maintained road, then turn right onto the private gravel drive leading to Highbush Cabin. There’s parking for 4 cars: 2 on a concrete pad, and 2 on the gravel drive. As our guest, you have use of the Level 2 EV charger (J-1772). The house, the grounds, and the Dollhouse are yours to use. The small locked wall safe in the upstairs bedroom is generally reserved for hosts' use and not available for guest; if you need it, we'll be happy to provide access on request. The workshop under the house and the tool shed are locked and not accessible to short term guests (we will provide access for longer term guests, on request).. The front entrance is reached by a stone walkway and a full flight of stairs. Most people prefer to use the deck entrance, which is directly adjacent to the parking pad, reached by a short flight of 4 stairs. The doorway is 32 inches across. Unfortunately, the house does not have accessibility features at this time. We look forward to making accessibility upgrades for people with mobility issues. Other things to note We're in bear country, folks: that means no food or garbage can be left outside. We know it's a hassle, but here in the mountains, whoever has the biggest teeth gets to make the rules. Using the kitchen garbage disposal as consistently as possible will help to keep trash from getting smelly. For guests staying 5 nights or more, we're glad to offer a free mid-stay cleaning (weekly cleaning, for those staying more than 2 weeks)- which includes taking away the trash. Otherwise, the transfer station for garbage and recycling (affectionately known as "the dump") is 5 minutes away. Highbush Cabin has its own well, providing pure, clean drinking water, filtered with a 5 micron whole-house filter. Because the cabin is on a septic system, it's important that other than your business, only toilet paper is flushed down the toilets! There is a large and well-stocked Ingles supermarket in Lake Lure. We keep a few food items stocked for guests, to minimize the need for a rushed trip on the mountains roads after your journey to Highbush Cabin. The nearest (ok... only) Starbucks is inside the Ingles store in Lake Lure. In our guidebook, you'll find a list of all the "essentials" in the area: grocery, convenience and liquor stores, gas stations, fast food, medical care, emergency services, and so on. We welcome families, and have a number of safety and other features such as baby gates, Pack n play, etc, installed or available on request for families with small children- just let us know what you need & we'll make sure it's there for you. The cabin has tons of activities for kids, from little kids to teens, to enjoy, including a Frisbee golf course and an archery range (rubber tipped arrows only!). Upstairs in the loft you'll find games, arts & crafts projects, puzzles and coloring books. There's an easel and a full set of paints and brushes, and various other art supplies throughout the house and the property. Pretty much anywhere there's a chair and a view, you'll find s sketchbook and charcoal pencils, oil pastels, or watercolor brush pens. Pets are welcome with a $100 pet fee (per stay, not per pet. You can bring 2 pets). For large pets, we may ask to meet them first. Service animals are exempt from the pet fee. We ask four legged guests to observe the same rules as all guests: be nice, do not chew furniture, only do your business outside unless you can use a toilet correctly, in which case, bravo, and carry on). See our house rules (hard copy available at the cabin) for more detail. A cleaning fee of $100 is charged per stay. The cabin has underground wiring, with a high degree of electric reliability. A backup generator automatically takes over in the event of power failure, ensuring that a power disruption won’t derail your stay. The rooftop solar panel array, EV charger, and heat pumps reflect our commitment to earth friendly practices. Highbush Cabin has fiber internet service providing fast, easy streaming, and flicker free zoom support.
