Woodsy Retreat near Wineries
Description
Welcome to our peaceful getaway “cabin” on 3 acres of private wooded land in charming Berrien Springs with nearby Lake Chapin. Our 1.5-story home was custom built and features a variety of gorgeous, locally-sourced woodwork. Cathedral windows overlook a ravine with a meandering creek. Take a tranquil walk along the trail that we cut through the property and make sure to stop along the way to catch some sights and sounds from the large pond. Explore the local vineyards, orchards, and breweries. The space The space consists of 2 full bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, family room, kitchen, dining nook and laundry room all on the main level, an upstairs loft area with a half bathroom, and an unfinished basement with home gym. Sliding doors off of the dining nook take you out onto the spacious deck equipped with lounge furniture and a dining table with 4 chairs. A patio area connects the deck to the backyard. We have strong Wifi through Comcast and have set up two mesh for extended Wifi range outside. The spacious primary bedroom has a king-sized bed and en suite bathroom. The guest bedroom has a queen-sized bed. Both bedrooms feature vaulted wood ceilings and wonderful tree views. The primary bedroom has two separate closets and a dresser. The secondary bedroom has a small closet and a storage bench. The upstairs loft has a dedicated work area, a futon, reading chair, and in the closet you can find two queen-sized air mattresses to use for your additional guests. In addition to serving as extra sleep space and/or workspace, this area is also great to relax, do yoga/stretch/meditate, draw, read a good book or just mellow out to the treetop views. You could even learn to pick some banjo, which you are free to use (or bring your own instrument of choice)! The living area features a Samsung soundbar system with subwoofer for theater-quality sound. This room is also equipped with a 100-inch remote-controlled projector screen and projector connected to an Amazon fire stick (note: this is what constitutes the "TV"). Upon your arrival, we will have instructions for connecting to this system. Luxuriate with plenty of space in the super comfy oversized leather sofa set and assortment of cozy throws. Throw in a quick load of laundry with a Samsung front-loading washer and dryer set. An iron, ironing board, folding table and drying rack are also available for your use. There is also plenty of outside parking on the property and turnaround spots. You also have access to the unfinished basement which we have equipped with a workout area that includes a squat rack, adjustable weight bench, Olympic deadlift bar with a set of 10- and 20-pound bumper plates, four additional 5-pound plates, and a 5-20 pound dumbbell weight set. (Please use this equipment at your discretion and with caution). The backyard offers a rustic, campground-like feeling. Enjoy sitting around the firepit with friends and family, outfitted with 6 Adirondack chairs. Hammocks are available for your use and, if not hung, will be kept in the deck storage box. We also have two camping chairs you are welcome to use (stored in the garage). You may also use our collapsible tripod grill and over-the-fire grill rack (also stored in the garage) for campfire meals. We have a gas Weber grill on the deck for bbq lovers. The kitchen and pantry are equipped with cooking and baking necessities. Cast iron cookware, Pyrex casserole dishes, Ninja food processor, griddle, waffle maker, and Crock Pot are some of what you will find. In addition to the appliance basics (electric range, oven, toaster) we also have an inverter microwave that doubles as an airfryer for all of your airfry needs. Ninja coffee drip maker doubles as a Keurig. We will provide a few pods to get you started. Chemex pourover, coffee bean grinder, and electric kettle are on hand for the coffee enthusiast. We provide a cast iron tea kettle with steeper for the tea lover. The dining table seats 4 and there is additional two-person seating at the kitchen island table. Guest access Guests have access to the entire property. However, we advise that you do not attempt to traverse down the bluff. Enjoy the views instead! We have cut and maintain a short trail through our property that we hope you will enjoy using. It is very easy to see how the trail connects at each end, however we also have a few orange flags to help you find your way. The only off-limits area of the house is the garage, as we use it for storage. Other things to note Please also be aware that we are nestled in the woods and therefore it is wise to use bug spray liberally. Venture off of the cut trail at your own risk and know how to identify poison ivy. Please take care in closing doors and screens to avoid letting bugs inside and please also ensure that trash is properly disposed of. We keep the garbage and recycling bins in the garage if you need to take out overflow trash/recycling during your stay. We do not permit fires anywhere except in the firepit and the outdoor Weber grill. Our property is very natural and woodsy which gives it a uniquely charming character. We maintain the area behind the house and just beyond the deck to be free of weeds etc., however we do not have traditional manicured landscaping. Please see the safety section regarding those items of note.
