Stay at our wilderness ecolodge located in Alaska's world famous Kenai Fjords! We offer glamorous oceanfront yurt lodging on our private property that is surrounded by the Alaskan wilderness. Activities of sea kayaking and hiking are included in your stay! Our secluded location is accessible only by boat from Seward, Alaska. We provide boat transportation for all of our guests - keep an eye out for abundant wildlife along the way! This entire experience is included in your nightly rate. Shearwater Cove is a secluded ecolodge 10 miles by water from Seward, Alaska in Resurrection Bay. Shearwater Cove is home to 7 yurts: 3 brand new Premier Yurts (see our Premier Yurt Ecolodge Package listing) and 4 Original Yurts (this listing!). All 7 of our yurts each have sleeping capacity for up to 4 people, a small kitchen for preparing meals, and a private shower and composting toilet. Every single yurt has an oceanfront view! If this listing is available for your selected dates it means that at least 1 of our Original Yurts is available. This listing will remain available until all 4 Original Yurts have been booked for a specific date. Send us a message if you would like to book 2 or more yurts. A stay at Shearwater Cove begins by meeting our water taxi in the Seward Small Boat Harbor. During the 40 minute boat ride to Shearwater Cove, keep an eye out for marine wildlife including whales, sea otters, eagles, sea lions, and so much more! Our comfortable boats have both indoor seating and outdoor viewing decks. Upon arrival at Shearwater Cove guests are greeted by our on-site host and given an orientation about their yurt, the sea kayaks, and our hiking trails. Guests have access to hiking trails on the surrounding property and can explore the neighboring coves and islands in sea kayaks at their leisure. Guided kayaking sessions are available for an additional charge. If anyone in your group is new to kayaking or wants to learn more about the wildlife and natural history of the Kenai Fjords, send us a message requesting a guided kayaking session. There is no food service at Shearwater Cove so guests shop for food and ice prior to boarding our boat. Each yurt has a small kitchen outfitted with a propane stove top, sink with hot running water, drinking water, pots, pans and cutlery, olive oil, basic cooking spices, coffee and a french press, and an ice chest. Send us a message if you need help brainstorming simple meals plans! Each yurt has a private outdoor bathroom on its deck with a shower and composting toilet. Bath towels and earth-friendly shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand soap are provided. Each of our Original Yurts has a queen bed and a full size sofa bed (our Premier Yurts have two queen beds). All linens, pillows, and blankets are provided. Each yurt has a propane heater for staying cozy warm. Shearwater Cove is entirely off the grid and we are proud of the heating, hot running water, and composting toilet systems that provide the creature comforts of home. The one amenity not available to guests is electricity. Battery powered lanterns are provided, although additional lighting is often not necessary with Alaska's midnight sun! Please note that you will be unable to charge phones, cameras, and electronics. We recommend bringing a small battery pack for charging devices. There is spotty phone service from the dock at Shearwater Cove, but it is highly unreliable and completely inaccessible from inside the yurts themselves. This is your chance to unplug and immerse in the here and now. There are several flights of stairs from the dock at Shearwater Cove to each yurt so please keep this in mind as you pack. We highly recommend soft luggage/backpacks. We understand that people often spend a few weeks in Alaska and may be traveling with a lot of luggage, so we encourage guests to sort through their belongings and bring only what they will need while at the yurts. We have never had a theft issue with guests storing extra luggage in their car in the designated public parking lot for the duration of their stay. However, if you do not have a car or if you are not comfortable leaving valuables in your car, contact Orange Bike Delivery about their luggage storage service. We are able to store only small amounts of luggage with advance notice. SEA KAYAKING! Guests have unlimited access to sea kayaks and the associated gear for exploring the incredible coastline of the Kenai Fjords that surrounds Shearwater Cove. During the boat ride to Shearwater Cove our captain will show you the best kayaking destinations and offer tips on the ideal times to visit each destination. Our on-site host will also provide a full orientation to the kayaks and gear when you arrive, and is available to help as you gear up. We encourage guests to book a 2+ night stay to take advantage of this huge kayaking value and to immerse in the setting of the Kenai Fjords. Guided kayaking sessions are available for an additional charge. If anyone in your group is new to kayaking or wants to learn more about the wildlife and natural history of the Kenai Fjords, send us a message requesting a guided kayaking session. The sessions are 2.5-3 hours long and are an additional $75 per person. HIKING! Shearwater Cove has 3 trails that depart directly from the yurts. Our Alpine Trail leads to an expansive overlook of Resurrection Bay and the Gulf of Alaska. The trail is steep and can be muddy, but it is a must-see guest favorite for sunsets, wildlife viewing, midday siestas, and immense mountain views. Our Forest Trail is an easy walk through the old-growth coastal forest. Our South Beach Trail leads to a hidden rocky beach that is perfect for evening drinks, tide pooling, and marine wildlife viewing. Each trail is no longer than a mile. WATERFRONT PAVILION! All guests have access to the waterfront pavilion which is built on the dock right next to the water's edge. The pavilion has chairs and tables for relaxing, sharing meals, or mingling with other guests. The pavilion was completed in 2023 and has quickly become a guest favorite for enjoying the scenery and watching wildlife. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to guests throughout the entirety of their stay at Shearwater Cove. Guests are greeted by our boat captain on the morning of their check-in. Upon arrival at the Cove guests are greeted by our on-site host who provides an orientation about the yurts, sea kayaks, and hiking trails. There is always a host on-site to ensure guest comfort and safety. Feel free to reach out to the host at any time during your stay. Our hosts have a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area and are happy to share their insight! We have seven yurts on the property so other guests may be present. Shearwater Cove is a remote location 40 minutes by water from Seward, Alaska. This provides guests the opportunity to enjoy peaceful, secluded nights in the Kenai Fjords away from city life. Cell phone service is not available at the yurts. We encourage guests to disconnect from their phones during their stay and enjoy each other and the great outdoors! Emergency procedures are in place and posted in each yurt. Our on-site host is trained in emergency response, and each yurt is equipped with a marine VHF radio for guests to carry while kayaking in case of an emergency on the water. Seward, Alaska is accessible by road from Anchorage. It takes 2.5 hours to drive from Anchorage to Seward. We encourage guests to give themselves 3 hours for the drive as there are often delays due to construction in the summer. Seward has a Safeway grocery store that is convenient for purchasing food for your stay. Food selection can be limited in Seward compared to a larger city like Anchorage or Soldotna. If it works with your travel itinerary, food shopping in Anchorage or Soldotna will provide a wider food selection. There is an overnight public parking lot across the street from where guests meet our boat in the Seward harbor. Specific directions to the parking lot will be given upon confirmation of your stay. Most last minute items that you might need are available in Seward. The True Value store, locally known as the Fish House, is across the street from the harbor and sells everything from outdoor gear and clothing to food/ice, tools and housewares. **IMPORTANT CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT INFORMATION** Upon confirmation of your reservation, you will receive a message containing your specific check-in and check-out times. Check-in times to meet our boat in the Seward harbor are either 10am or 12pm. Check-out times from your yurt are either 8:30am or 11:00am. Times are determined based on existing reservations and the number of folks who are arriving and departing each day. The water taxi ride is about 45 minutes each way. Feel free to message us prior to booking to inquire what your check-in and check-out times will be for a specific date. We are available by phone and email for any questions prior to your stay. Upon confirmation of your reservation, you will receive specific details of where to park, where to meet, and recommended things to bring. **Guests that are 30+ minutes late for their check-in time ("no show") will be cancelled and will not be refunded for their stay. Please call us if you are running late.** While planning activities following check-out from the yurts, please give yourself an extra 1-2 hours of wiggle room. Shearwater Cove is a remote location that is only accessible by boat. Weather conditions may delay or slow the ride back to town. Give yourself extra time to transition into your next activity/destination so that in the case of delay you do not miss your next activity or stress about time. Much of the beauty and awesome experience of Shearwater Cove is due to its being removed from modern society. Please remember that travel time to and from these types of places can vary because of that wonderful quality. Staying at Shearwater Cove is a high-value experience with significant savings compared to doing each activity a-la-carte. We provide an authentic, small group Alaskan experience tucked away from the tourist crowds. Our nightly rate includes your round trip transportation on our exclusive water taxi vessel. Our price reflects the added value of this scenic 40 minute tour of the Kenai Fjords en route to Shearwater Cove. There are no roads to the property so all guests will arrive by boat. Our prices also reflect the added value of the sea kayaking and hiking activities. Due to the inherent risks of boat transportation and remote lodging, all guests will be required to sign an Acknowledgement of Risks and Release of Liabilities Form prior to trip departure. If you need somewhere to stay close to town in Seward, check out our host profile to find our Modern Cabin with Hot Tub listing that is a short 10 minute drive from downtown Seward. A stay at this cabin pairs well on either end of a stay at one of our yurts.
