Other things to note How to Build a Fire in a Fireplace: Open the damper to allow smoke to escape through the chimney. Remove old ashes and debris for better airflow. Place crumpled newspaper or fire starters in the center. Stack small, dry kindling in a teepee or crisscross shape. Place larger logs on top, leaving space for airflow. Use a long match or lighter to ignite the newspaper at multiple points. Maintain the fire by adding logs as needed. Never leave the fire unattended; let it burn down completely and ensure all embers are out before leaving. The road going to the property is very steep and will require a vehicle with front-wheel drive and good snow tires in the winter months or 4-wheel drive would be best. 0.4 miles to Okemo Base Lodge & lifts 2.5 miles to Lake Rescue 2 miles to Fox Run Golf course 5 miles to Butternut fall/swimming hole 5 miles to Green Mountain Sugarhouse 8 miles to Plymouth State Park / Echo Lake 13 miles to President Calvin Coolidge Homestead 23 miles to Killington Mt.
