The lake has a water area of 12.5 km² and is nestled between the Dammer and the Stemweder mountains. On the east side of the Dummer are the main holiday resorts of Hüde and Lembruch. They impress with their maritime charm and have a lot to offer for the guest seeking relaxation. Along the kilometer-long dyke promenade, the tourist leisure activities leave nothing to be desired. On the west bank is the smaller Olgahafen, which belongs to Dümmerlohausen. Bike tours along the lake, windsurfing, stand up paddling, mountain biking or hiking in the woods, many reasons to vacation at the Dümmer. In the Stemweder and Dammer mountains there are a variety of designated hiking trails to explore. The Dümmer is the center of the Dümmer Nature Park of the same name and is surrounded by extensive lowland moors and wet meadows. In the Dümmer Museum, visitors are taught about nature conservation, ornithology and cultural landscape history in a variety of ways. The nature park is also an international bird sanctuary. Over 275 bird species are at home here. Every year, the so-called Dümmerbrand takes place. Here, one of the largest fireworks in northern Germany is fired from 5 floating pontoons in the lake. Colorful fairy lights, open-air live music on several stages and illuminated boats, at sunset - what more does it take to be enchanted by the ambience? Even the youngest visitors are offered a program with numerous hands-on activities. Here, in the past, there were: face painting, balloon artists, giant slide, treasure hunts and much more, so many children's eyes. Some flea market dealers also set up their stands. The event takes place on one of the last two weekends in August and changes locations annually, between Hüde and Lembruch, on the Dümmer. The nearest train station is in Diepholz and is only 12 minutes away by car. About 600 m away is the Edeka Nah&Gut Macke. If you are about to make a large purchase, we recommend a car ride to Lemförde, 8 km away. There is a square with all the usual shopping markets directly at the entrance to the village. Restaurants are close by and within walking distance.
