The lake has a water area of 12.5 km² and is nestled between the Dammer and the Stemweder mountains. On the east side of the Dummer are the main holiday resorts of Hüde and Lembruch. They impress with their maritime charm and have a lot to offer for the guest seeking relaxation. Along the kilometer-long dyke promenade, the tourist leisure activities leave nothing to be desired. On the west bank is the smaller Olgahafen, which belongs to Dümmerlohausen. Bike tours along the lake, windsurfing, stand up paddling, mountain biking or hiking in the woods, many reasons to vacation at the Dümmer. In the Stemweder and Dammer mountains there are a variety of designated hiking trails to explore. The Dümmer is the center of the Dümmer Nature Park of the same name and is surrounded by extensive lowland moors and wet meadows.
